Hema was sent to the mental asylum after a traumatic series of events. Her brother-in-law attempted to rape her, which combined with the death of her sister Lalitha, caused her mental state to deteriorate rapidly, leading to her institutionalization.

Lalitha was Hema's sister who died under tragic circumstances. Her death, occurring alongside the brother-in-law's attempted rape of Hema, was the dual trauma that pushed Hema into the mental asylum.

Madhava entered the asylum by pretending to be mentally unstable because it was the only way to reach Hema and rescue her. The asylum was strictly guarded, and he needed to be inside to help her escape and uncover the truth about what happened to her.

Inside the asylum, Madhava was falsely accused of attempted rape after he stopped a guard from attacking Hema. This false accusation led to him being subjected to shock therapy as punishment.

Madhava hesitated to marry Hema because of caste barriers. As a cowherd from a lower caste, he felt unworthy of marrying Hema, who came from a higher social position. His hesitation reflected the deep-rooted social stigma they both faced.

Hema regained her memory through Madhava's persistent efforts. He repeatedly tried to trigger her recollection of their shared past, and his unwavering devotion eventually helped her recover her memories of their relationship.

Sripathi was Hema's fiancé who played a crucial role in the resolution. After Madhava rescued Hema from the asylum, Sripathi convinced Madhava to overcome his caste concerns and marry Hema, effectively releasing Hema from their engagement so she could be with Madhava.

The manuscripts belonged to Madhava's father - poetry that Hema's father had in his possession. When Madhava sold his cows to help fund Lalitha's wedding, Hema's father entrusted the manuscripts to Madhava to have them printed. This act symbolized a shift in their relationship and gave Madhava purpose beyond his service role.
