As footage from Berlin’s bustling airport reveals men seamlessly moving through security, their seemingly harmless actions mask a deadly conspiracy. The tension escalates within the cramped cockpit of a German flight, where Captain Michael Lutzmann and American co-pilot Tobias Ellis prepare for takeoff. Heartfelt complications arise for Tobias, as he juggles his professional duties with personal entanglements, particularly his romantic relationship with flight attendant Gökce and their two-year-old son.
Once airborne, the pilots exploit an external camera feed to observe the cabin. When meals are brought in, they buzz a flight attendant into the cockpit. However, chaos erupts as passengers Vedat and Kinan violently assault the unsuspecting crew member, gaining access to the cockpit. Armed with broken glass, they brutally attack both Lutzmann and Tobias, inflicting severe injuries.
In a desperate act of defiance, Tobias manages to push Vedat out and slams the door, while Lutzmann bravely defends themselves against Kinan. Tobias acts quickly, utilizing a fire extinguisher to neutralize Kinan. With Lutzmann gravely wounded, he urges Tobias to stabilize the plane, a task made more challenging as he grapples with his mangled arm.
With Vedat and two accomplices relentless in their attempts to break through, Tobias summons his last reserves of strength to tie Kinan up and contact ground control for an emergency landing in Hannover. The reality of Lutzmann’s imminent death hangs heavily over him, yet Tobias pushes forward, determined to steer the aircraft to safety.
Heartbroken, Tobias relays the tragic news to ground control, who assure him that emergency responders are on the way. He addresses the cabin with a heavy heart, announcing their approach to Hannover in twenty minutes. As the crisis escalates, the hijacker Daniel threatens a passenger, demanding, > “Open the door, or this man will pay the ultimate price.” The atmosphere aboard is charged with dread as Tobias’ cries for mercy echo unanswered, while ground control firmly maintains their stance: the cockpit door cannot be opened, leaving Tobias perilously trapped.
His anguish deepens as he confronts the despair of the hostage’s fate, his voice cracking as he informs ground control of the dire situation—a chilling confirmation from the hijackers reveals their reinforcements are on the way, and hopelessness settles in.
In a final attempt to save lives, Tobias communicates with Vedat, suggesting a peaceful resolution upon landing. Yet, Daniel, consumed with rage, reappears, this time with Gökce as a hostage. Her plea for her child ignites an epiphany in Tobias: perhaps Vedat, the hijackers’ leader, is not as committed to violence as his accomplice.
As the stakes heighten, Tobias grasps an opportunity to inspire the passengers to confront their captors. He boldly broadcasts a message over the intercom, calling out Daniel’s armed threats while rallying the passengers for a fight for survival. Amidst the chaos, Vedat battles with his own sense of morality against Daniel’s unyielding ferocity.
As the situation teeters on the brink of disaster, Tobias faces the impossible task of balancing the lives of his passengers with appeasing the hijackers’ demands. In a gripping display of courage, he must outsmart Daniel to avert further calamity.
As the escorting jets guide the plane towards Hannover airport, a sudden uprising ignites among the passengers, spurring them to reclaim control. Kinan, one of the attackers, seizes the opportunity to ambush Tobias, leading to a heart-wrenching moment of betrayal as he drags Vedat into the cockpit, both men devastated by the violence that has unfolded. Kinan’s demand for Vedat to kill Tobias is met with an unexpected twist: instead of following through with the order, Vedat binds him, igniting Kinan’s rage.
Kinan’s fury erupts as he announces his intention to enact revenge on Westerners in the name of his beliefs, dismissing pleas for negotiation. Meanwhile, as the plane nears its destination, Vedat’s internal struggle intensifies, torn between the violence around him and his discomfort with the bloodshed he has witnessed.
In a dramatic shift of power, Vedat turns against Kinan, killing his former leader and releasing Tobias. The wounded pilot fights to keep the aircraft steady even as Vedat demands a diversion, but Tobias counters that they must land first to refuel. In a tense standoff, Tobias persuades Vedat that landing is the priority.
Once on the ground, Vedat becomes fixated on the evacuation while Tobias is preoccupied with contemplating his own grim fate. Vedat maintains his hold on Tobias as police negotiations unfold outside. When Vedat retreats to the bathroom, Tobias seizes the moment to reclaim a shard of glass from Kinan’s lifeless body.
In the ensuing silence, the two men sit together, introspection taking over as they contemplate their choices and the uncertain future ahead. Vedat, just eighteen, lays bare his youth when questioned by the authorities about Tobias’s condition. The fragile peace between captor and captive shatters, however, when a sniper’s shot strikes Vedat down, a chilling reminder of the stakes at hand.
As Tobias tends to the injured pilot, he grapples with the stark reality of their circumstances, the lifeless form of Gökce looming nearby. The weight of loss bears heavily on him as he gradually moves towards acceptance, permitting law enforcement to board the plane, while Vedat’s body is carefully removed. The aftermath unfolds methodically; Tobias walks forlornly past Gökce’s remains, his gaze fixed on an uncertain future, as authorities step into the cockpit, striving to comprehend the tragic events that transpired within.
