The film begins with Captain Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) in Singapore, reaching out to his daughter Daniela (Haleigh Hekking) as he plans to return home to Honolulu for the holidays. As a seasoned former RAF pilot, Brodie is at the helm of Trailblazer Airlines Flight 119, joined by his co-pilot Samuel Dele (Yoson An), who alerts him to an impending storm. During the preparations, Bonnie (Daniella Pineda), the head flight attendant, informs Brodie about the presence of an RCMP officer on board to escort an accused killer, Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), a former soldier of the French Foreign Legion.

As the flight ascends, we meet a diverse group of passengers, including young social media influencers and a pompous businessman. In a heartfelt conversation with Dele, Brodie reveals the tragic loss of his wife years prior. However, the calm is shattered when the plane encounters severe turbulence over the South China Sea. The worsening storm causes substantial damage, injuring Brodie and ultimately leading to the death of the RCMP officer and a stewardess. With communication and radar systems offline, Brodie and Dele must skillfully regain control and make an emergency landing on an unfamiliar island.

Once they regain composure, the duo assesses their situation: they have crash-landed on Jolo Island in the Philippines. Meanwhile, back at Trailblazer HQ in New York City, crisis manager Scarsdale (Tony Goldwyn) meets with the board of directors to strategize their response and locate the lost plane and its occupants.

Brodie faces the challenge of keeping Louis isolated from the other passengers due to his potentially violent tendencies while striving to maintain calm among the frightened travelers. Datu Junmar (Evan Dane Taylor), a local rebel leader, learns of their crash landing and determines to leverage the situation for gain. As tensions rise, Brodie ventures into the jungle with Louis in search of a way to contact the outside world.

In New York, the board reviews Brodie’s past incidents, uncovering a disconcerting video regarding his former responses in high-stress situations. They soon learn the missing flight’s location and dispatch a mercenary team to the island, aware of the imminent threats the passengers face. Back in Honolulu, Daniela is informed of her father’s dire circumstances.

Brodie and Louis eventually reach a communication tower, where Brodie tries to convey their location to a Trailblazer agent, who is skeptical due to previous crank calls. He manages to phone Daniela, but their moment is interrupted by an attack from a rebel, whom Brodie confronts and kills. The grim setting reveals that the area has been used for the terrible torture of hostages.

Returning to the plane, they discover that Junmar and his men have already taken control. A chaotic scene unfolds as a Korean woman is shot, followed by the brutal decapitation of her husband. The rebels take the remaining passengers hostage, forcing Brodie and Louis to devise a plan to rescue them. As Brodie and Louis approach the village where hostages are held, they find Junmar coercing the captives to state their identities for ransom.

Just then, the mercenary team, led by Shellback (Remi Adeleke), arrives on the island but encounters a grim sight: the lifeless bodies of the RCMP officer and stewardess, alongside a desperate message from Brodie. In a heart-pounding climax, Brodie and Louis locate the hostages and engage in a battle against the rebels. In an act of sacrifice, Brodie turns himself over to the captors, hoping to create a distraction.

In a twist of fate, the mercenaries intervene just in time, leading to a fierce gunfight. With Brodie’s and the mercenaries’ combined efforts, they rescue the hostages and make their way back to the plane. However, Junmar’s vengeance fuels his anger, leading to a fierce confrontation.

While the mercenaries fend off the pursuing rebels, Brodie and Dele attempt to get the plane soaring again. Despite the damaged aircraft, they manage to overcome the odds. In a climactic moment, Brodie narrowly avoids an RPG fired by Junmar, sending the antagonist to his demise beneath the plane’s wheels. As they steer towards a neighboring island with an airstrip, they make a successful landing under precarious circumstances, prompting cheers from the team at HQ.

After the passengers safely disembark, Brodie takes a moment to call Daniela, reassuring her of his safety and imminent return. This gripping tale of survival and tenacity ultimately underscores the power of hope and resilience in the face of dire challenges.
