Wrecker

A road trip begins as Emily and Leslie drive off, frustrated with Emily's boyfriend and seeking a getaway. At a fork in the road, they decide to take Devil's Pass and commit to the long, isolated route.

On the open road, a foul-smelling tow truck hauls the couple's car and lumbers ahead of them. Leslie curses the driver as the truck speeds past, leaving a sour mood in its wake.

At a gas station, they realize the tow truck is still tailing them, and Emily catches a glimpse of the driver's boots. The attendant warns that the Mustang will need service soon, prompting them to move on.

The tow truck follows and refuses to pull over; Emily allows it to pass momentarily, but when it slows, she is waved into oncoming traffic. They rush forward, narrowly avoiding two children in a residential area before pulling into a diner.

Inside the diner, the women grow nervous as the tow truck is parked nearby. They mistake a patron for the driver and confront him, but the man leaves in a pickup, hinting that their stalker may be someone else.

They find the abandoned car that the tow truck had been towing; a pickup driver stops to help them move it off the road. As the helper assists, the tow truck suddenly appears and strikes the abandoned car, forcing Emily to scramble out.

The women warn off the pickup driver and speed away, but the pursuing tow truck keeps gaining ground and eventually tips them off the road with a flat tire.

Fleeing on foot, Emily staggers until Leslie is gone and the car's tire has been replaced. She presses deeper into Devil's Pass, trying to find safety.

Not knowing what else to do, Emily returns to the road and is spooked by passing trucks. She sleeps for a while and dreams of Leslie.

A police officer stops to offer help, and Emily eagerly tells him about the trucker. Before she can convince him, the trucker runs him over and steals the squad car, leaving Emily bewildered.

Emily uses a pistol she forgot she was carrying to force the gas attendant to give her fuel. The tow truck destroys the payphone booth, and she flees in the Mustang, realizing the engine is failing from neglected oil.

With the tow truck closing in, Emily drives straight toward it in a final game of chicken; the truck swerves and balances on the cliff's edge. Hearing a phone ring from the truck, she opens the trunk to find horrifying contents before ramming the tow truck off the cliff.

In a junkyard where the couple's car, a police cruiser, and the pickup sit in storage, a similar tow truck menaces a driver who looks like Leslie, hinting at a repeating cycle of paranormal events.
