Without Her Consent

Emily Briggs moves from Idaho to Los Angeles to begin a new job. In LA she meets Jason Barnes, a friendly neighbor who works as a film set decorator. He invites her to his Santa Monica home to pick up an old table for her new place, setting the stage for trouble.

During the table pickup, Jason rapes Emily. She struggles to escape and endures fear and confusion as she tries to break free from the assault.

Marty insists that Emily report the rape, but the District Attorney declines the case due to lack of witnesses and because Emily had willingly visited Jason. The decision leaves her feeling abandoned by the system and without immediate justice.

In the aftermath, Emily attempts to resume her life and begins a relationship with Trey Cousins. She discovers she cannot easily engage in intimacy, indicating the lasting impact of the assault on her relationships.

Marcia Daily visits Emily and reveals she was raped by Jason, and that his victims were stalked afterward as a form of power control. She mentions attorney Gloria Allred who could pursue a case, but Emily remains reluctant to take legal action.

Emily opens up to Trey about the assault, and he overhears the admission. He feels betrayed by her decision to seek help from a stranger and worries about their future together as a result.

Consumed by anger, Trey attempts to confront Jason and eventually drives into him with his car. The act shocks both Emily and the people around them and complicates any potential legal resolution.

During proceedings, a young woman named Claire Sugarman comes forward claiming she was raped by Jason, enabling Gloria to broaden the case. Emily remains reluctant to testify again but grows more determined to prove her truth.

Facing mounting evidence, Emily becomes determined to prove she was raped and agrees to pursue court proceedings again despite previous hesitation.

Trey visits Emily hoping for reconciliation, but she tells him she does not believe he fully understands her experience and questions their future together.

In the courtroom, Emily endures a challenging cross-examination centered on her past relationships, while Gloria's team tries to expose Jason’s lies and keep the case intact.

Jason's neighbor Pete Raymond testifies that Emily left his place battered, undermining Jason's denials. Jason then breaks and admits the crime, sealing his conviction.

With Jason convicted, Emily reconciles with Trey and receives $5 million in damages for the assault.
