In the waning days of the Chinese civil war, three Nationalist soldiers—Sheng Peng, Huang Te‑shun and Fan Chung‑yueh—find themselves cut off from the front lines and forced to flee across a shattered landscape. Their desperate trek ends on an uneasy boat bound for the island of Taiwan, a place that promises safety but offers no clear path forward. The film opens in that liminal moment, where the weight of a lost cause and the uncertainty of a new world press heavily on their shoulders, setting a tone that is both reverent of the past and quietly hopeful for what lies ahead.
