War of the Worlds

Martians launch an unprovoked attack on Earth's major nations, destroying cities and causing massive loss of life. Ten-year-old Eric Wells witnesses Leeds being destroyed and his parents killed by the Martian Tripods. The Martians are ultimately defeated by Earth's bacteria, which they have no defense against.

Over 140 million people are killed in the Martian invasion, and many of the world's great cities are destroyed. Earth's bacteria eradicate the remaining Martians, bringing a temporary end to their threat. Humanity begins to rebuild in the aftermath of the devastating attack.

In Manhattan, New York City, 15 years after the initial invasion, Earth has advanced to a dieselpunk/steampunk world with recovered technology from the Martians. Europe teeters on the brink of collapse as the Great War looms, with Eric Wells now grown and serving as a captain in the A.R.E.S. organization.

Eric leads a squad of humans equipped with steam-powered Tripods, including the new Achilles-class model named 'The Goliath'. His team prepares for simulated war games against other Tripods, demonstrating Earth's technological adaptation from the Martian invasion.

The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand triggers the start of the Great War in Europe. Despite political tensions, Eric urges his team to stay and prepare for an imminent Martian invasion, believing the true threat is the alien force.

The Martians begin their full invasion with more advanced Tripods that resist Earth's bacteria. They attack A.R.E.S. forces, decimating many units until Eric and his team manage to destroy two of the Tripods with support from local militia.

Eric’s team discovers a Martian factory capturing humans and constructing weapons for the invasion. They rescue prisoners and destroy the factory, with the Leviathan warship arriving to evacuate them from the danger.

Martians attack Earth's defenses, overrunning A.R.E.S. headquarters in New York. Roosevelt and the A.R.E.S. ships arrive to break the siege, and together they manage to destroy all Martian forces in the city.

A massive Martian spacecraft surfaces from New York Harbor, launching a devastating attack on the A.R.E.S. base. The ships Leviathan and Agemmon engage the alien craft in fierce combat to prevent further destruction.

The A.R.E.S. ships attack the Martian spacecraft, causing it to retaliate. Agemmon is destroyed by heat rays, and Leviathan crashes after being hit when a building falls on its bridge. Dimitri survives after clinging to the wreckage.

Dimitri, falling from the destroyed Leviathan, sacrifices himself by letting go to allow his father, General Kushnirov, to regain control. The Leviathan then crashes into the Martian spacecraft, destroying both and ending the invasion.

With the destruction of the Martian spacecraft, the invasion ends. Roosevelt encourages humanity to rebuild Earth and prepare for future conflicts, with hopes of someday bringing the war to Mars.
