When the alien race known as the Kulku arrive, they present Earth with an impossible ultimatum: give eight million humans to be used as part of a cure for a deadly virus threatening their species, and in return they promise not to annihilate the planet. The threat is clear, and the world reacts with fear and urgency. Across nations, desperation pushes people toward extreme measures; some governments free tens of thousands from prisons in hopes of meeting the quota, while the United States resorts to a nationwide lottery to select who will be handed over. Among the chosen is Heather, the daughter of Dr. Stephen Chase, a brilliant researcher who becomes a central figure in the fight to save Earth.
Dr. Stephen Chase, Brad Johnson, refuses to stand by and watch his daughter fall into Kulku hands, and he joins a growing human resistance. He brings with him a weapon he has designed, a tool he believes could turn the tide against the invaders. The resistance fights back, and they enjoy early success against the Kulku, partially leveraging Chase’s invention to blunt the alien threat. But the battle takes a personal turn when Heather is captured and taken aboard the Kulku mothership that orbits Earth. On board, the Kulku discover a chilling fact: unlike the others, Heather’s blood—though still blood—proves to be capable of curing a Kulku with perhaps a single drop, rather than needing the whole being. The revelation raises the stakes immeasurably because it means Heather could become the key to a cure, and Jal, the Kulku ambassador, begins to push toward coercive action.
As the crisis deepens, the Kulku plan to transport Heather to their homeworld and, at the same time, unleash their Raeg weapon on Earth. Jal believes that sending Heather forward will allow her to travel alive to the Kulku homeworld, and in tandem, he intends Earth’s destruction to pave the way for a new balance with humanity. Against this looming threat, the United States mobilizes its military, including General Skyler, Carl Weathers, who leads a U.S. Army faction that has shifted to support the resistance in a bid to halt the Kulku offensive. The resistance engineers a desperate plan around Chase’s weapon, recalibrating it as a makeshift beam to disrupt the Raeg’s power and buy time for Earth to endure the approaching catastrophe.
A pivotal moment comes when a traitor within the Kulku ranks leaks the resistance’s plans to Kor, a Kulku who sympathizes with humanity but cannot bear to see his entire race sacrificed. Kor lands a strike team at the observatory to stifle the human counterattack, a confrontation that tests loyalties and exposes painful truths about sacrifice and survival. Seizing an opportunity, Chase boards Kor’s ship and forces him to steer toward the Kulku mothership, determined to rescue Heather and press his advantage.
Once aboard, Chase and Heather discover a brutal reality: Jal has slaughtered many of his own kind and plans to return as a hero, with Heather as a living symbol of Kulku triumph. A brutal duel ensues between Jal and Chase, with Heather’s distraction allowing Chase to gain the upper hand and kill Jal. Yet the danger isn’t over. Kor, gravely wounded, attempts to detonate the Raeg weapon to wipe out the invaders at the root of the problem and preserve his race. Back at the observatory, the battle rages on; nearly all the Kulku and many resistance fighters perish in the struggle, and the weapon is only moments from firing when two Kulku soldiers nearly kill Blair, Lilas Lane. The timely arrival of General Skyler and his forces ends that threat, and Blair deploys the weapon to destroy the Raeg at the last possible second.
Kor’s injuries finally catch up to him, and Heather finishes the job in a quiet moment of vengeance for the pain the Kulku have caused Earth. Chase, with Heather safe, retrieves a Kulku shuttle and returns to the observatory, reuniting with Blair and General Skyler in the aftermath of the clash. A news broadcast seals the memory of the catastrophe: nearly eight million people have died in the invasion, and the world begins the long, painful process of recovery as the Kulku seem to be dying out on their virus-ravaged homeworld.
In the end, the struggle reveals the resilience and grit of humanity—paired with the unlikely alliance between a human doctor, his steadfast daughter, and a Kulku outsider—who, against the odds, manage to avert an Earth-wide extinction. The price is steep, and the wound remains, but the broadcast confirms a future where Earth still stands and where a fragile peace begins to take root, even as the Kulku fight to endure their own deadly mystery.
