Vishwaroopam

A mysterious man at a pigeon shelter feeds his pigeons and releases one. The released pigeon flies to the window where Nirupama is in a therapy session, hinting at hidden tensions in her life and sets the story in motion.

To address her unhappy marriage to Vishwanath, Nirupama leans on her friend Bindu, who suggests action. She hires a detective named Peter to spy on Vishwanath and uncover any secrets.

Vishwanath invites his student Ashmitha Subramaniam, his uncle Jagganath, and their friend John Dawkins to brief them on an unknown mission. He pretends not to know about Nirupama's affair, even though he is aware of it.

Nirupama stays with Deepak at the office and helps him stock money in his safe, which also contains a gun. The scene underscores the secrecy and danger surrounding their activities.

The next day, Vishwanath's group conducts surveillance around the city while Peter trails him after he prays in an Islamic worship place. Peter informs Nirupama that Vishwanath has hidden his true religion as a Muslim.

Vishwanath eludes Peter at a trailer complex, where Farukh confronts him and kills Peter. The diary Peter kept is later found by Farukh's group, revealing Nirupama and Deepak as his clients.

Farukh and Salim review Peter's diary and realize Nirupama is connected to Deepak. Under Omar's orders, Deepak confronts Nirupama about why she supposedly sent the detective.

Nirupama and Deepak are abducted to a warehouse where Farukh interrogates Vishwanath, demanding to know who he is. Vishwanath is beaten but refuses to cooperate, and then uses a trick to unbind his hands.

Moments after Vishwanath is freed, he reveals his real name: Wisam Ahmed Kashmiri, a fugitive of the Indian army who becomes a jihadi under Omar. He recounts his past in Afghanistan, where he trained soldiers and formed ties with Omar, Salim, and village leaders.

Wisam witnesses the brutality of war in Afghanistan as American forces threaten Omar's territory, a village is bombed, and a young fighter named Mammu sacrifices himself. He also learns that civilians and soldiers alike suffer under the siege.

In the present, Wisam, Ashmita, Jagannath, and Dawkins try to sort out past events and evade the FBI, while a larger conspiracy involving cesium bombs unfolds. Dawkins is killed by Salim in Central Park while trying to secure files on the bomb.

The embassy praises Wisam for his past deeds, but Wisam makes clear that the war with Omar must end in his death. He and his allies head to India to confront Omar, with plans to neutralize the cesium threat and end the invasion.
