At the end of Tornado, Tornado is left devastated after losing her father, Fujin, and her friend, the little boy who tried to help her. She discovers that her father had secretly moved the gold to a hidden place before Sugarman and his gang arrived, which kept her from losing everything. With the gold gone, Tornado’s grief turns to a resolve rooted in regret, realizing how greed and violence had claimed her loved ones. She tears the sacks of gold from a tree and throws what little remains into the lake, symbolizing her rejection of greed’s destructive power. Her journey of vengeance culminates in her confronting Sugarman, who, weakened and guilt-ridden, is on his deathbed. Sugarman’s regret about his life and his failures as a father mirror her own pain, but it’s too late for redemption for him. Tornado, having paid her respects to her father, understands that her path is now her own. She walks away alone, uncertain of what awaits her, but stronger and determined to forge her identity beyond the shadows of her past. In that silent, lonely walk, she embodies a mythic figure—resilient, fierce, and free—leaving behind the cycle of violence and greed, and symbolizing hope for a future where she can choose her own destiny.
