Tom Sawyer

Tom and his half-brother Sid are on the way to school when they spot Huck Finn fishing. Tom decides to skip class to join Huck, chasing a day of adventure. His resolve wavers, though, when he catches sight of Becky Thatcher, pulling his attention in a new direction.

During class, Tom is made to sit with Becky Thatcher and Amy Lawrence. He finds himself drawn to Becky while being formally 'engaged' to Amy. The seating arrangement foreshadows the romantic entanglements to come.

On the way home from school, Tom tries several times to kiss Becky during the musical moment Hook, Line and Sinker. Becky's father, Judge Thatcher, blocks every advance, keeping romance at arm's length. The moment underscores Tom's pursuit of Becky's affection.

The next day, Aunt Polly orders Tom to paint the house as punishment. Tom persuades his friends to do the painting for him, letting him avoid the work. Becky visits and agrees to help only if she can kiss him; Rebel the frog steals the show by kissing Tom first, drawing laughter from everyone.

That night, Tom and Huck spy Injurin' Joe and Mutt Potter uncovering a chest of gold. Deputy Bean comes across them at a graveyard, and Joe murders Bean, frames Mutt, and captures Rebel. Tom and Huck vow never to reveal what they've witnessed.

The following day at school, Becky spills ink on the test results. Amy wants to tell on Becky, but Tom takes the blame. Mr. Dobbins administers a harsh spanking, and later Tom is seen as officially engaged to Becky.

A musical number called One Dream has Becky and Amy expressing their love for Tom. Tom admits he loves Amy as well, causing Becky to break off their engagement. Becky walks away, leaving Tom torn between the two girls.

Tom and Huck visit Mutt Potter, who is on death row, hoping to jog his memory about Injurin' Joe's murder. Joe finds them after them, but the boys escape by raft. They celebrate their survival with a musical number, Friends for Life.

The townspeople mourn what they believe to be Tom and Huck's deaths and hold a funeral. Tom and Huck crash the service to reveal they are alive and are hailed as heroes. Amy kisses Tom in front of Becky to inflame rivalry, fueling Becky’s heartbreak.

At the courthouse, Tom and Huck testify against Injurin' Joe, helping ensure Mutt Potter's charges are dropped. Joe chases them afterward, but is pulled away by the river, ending his immediate threat. Mutt's fate is effectively sealed in their favor.

Tom and Becky venture into the cave together, with Amy following them. Tom reassures Becky with a song about finding a light at the end of the tunnel. Inside the cave they discover treasure and encounter Joe, and a rockfall traps Joe, ending his threat.

With Joe dead and danger passed, Amy becomes Huck's girlfriend and Becky finally becomes Tom's girlfriend. The girls' rivalries soften as their romantic outcomes are settled. The town begins to move on from the chaos of the past days.

The next day, Sid tries to snitch on Tom again, but Aunt Polly intervenes and makes Sid paint the house instead. Tom is spared once more, and the household continues with a lighter mood. The family dynamics begin to settle after all the upheaval.

The movie closes with Tom, Becky, Huck and Amy sharing a picnic, enjoying a moment of friendship. Tom shows off a gold coin and talks about another treasure hunt, hinting at further adventures to come. The group rides off with renewed bonds and optimism.
