The daydreams serve as a narrative device that reveals Janie's inner desires and fantasies about each suitor. The film uses split-screen sequences to show three different possible futures, with Tom as a car salesman's wife, with Dick as a wealthy socialite, and with Harry as a mechanic's wife. These fantasies drive the comedy and highlight the gap between Janie's dreams and reality.

Harry differs from Tom and Dick because he is not wealthy or conventionally successful, he is a simple garage mechanic. However, he stands out by being genuinely affectionate and spontaneous, proposing to Janie almost immediately after meeting her. Unlike Dick's wealth or Tom's stability, Harry offers honest emotion, which is what ultimately makes Janie question her priorities.

Foreshadowing: From his first appearance, Harry is characterized by his bold, romantic gesture of proposing, which contrasts with the other men's more calculated approaches.
