The Tempest

Prospero has conjured a violent storm that tosses a ship on the ocean while he lies asleep nearby. The storm is revealed to be an illusion created by Prospero to lure Alonso and his crew to the island. He later summons Ariel to explain the ruse and its purpose.

Ariel tells Prospero the details of the storm, confirming that the raging sea was an intentional illusion designed to guide the ship's passengers to the island. The revelation makes clear Prospero's plan for revenge against Alonso and Antonio. Ariel's report sets the emotional and strategic tone for what follows.

Miranda wakes and joins her father in his study to discuss their past. Prospero recounts how he was Duke of Milan before Antonio's betrayal forced them into exile on the island. He also shows Miranda a vision of their past through his sceptre's crystal, revealing the storm's purpose as revenge.

Caliban interrupts the talk and Prospero stomps on his fingers, threatening punishment. Caliban defends his belief that he is the rightful owner of the island, claiming Prospero enslaved him after he taught Prospero to survive there. The encounter reinforces the power imbalance on the island.

Ariel brings Ferdinand into Prospero's house after luring him from the sea, where he sleeps by the fireplace. Prospero promises Ariel two days of freedom for bringing Ferdinand to the house and shackles his ankles, intending to test him. Miranda vouches for Ferdinand's innocence, and he is placed in Caliban's quarters after resting.

Alonso and the other survivors find and enter Prospero's house. Following the sound of music, they wander into an empty ballroom, unsure of where they are. This marks their eerie introduction to the island's magic and control.

Ariel appears and reminds the group of the wrongs done to Prospero in the past. The imps hiss and bite at Alonso and the others, leaving them trapped and immobilized in cobwebs as they freeze in place.

Prospero witnesses Miranda and Ferdinand share a kiss, and learns that their relationship has survived the ordeal. He declares that Ferdinand's forced labor was merely a trial to prove his worthiness to marry Miranda, and then lifts some of the burdens on Ferdinand. Miranda's trust, and her defense of Ferdinand, strengthens their bond.

Prospero and Ariel conjure an elaborate masque around the frozen Alonso and the others. Sailors dance frantically as Miranda and Ferdinand appear in wedding attire. The magical spectacle intensifies the sense of revelry on the island.

Prospero awakens Alonso and the other shipwreck survivors from stasis, reuniting Ferdinand with his father. He forgives the past betrayals and reunites the parties, closing old wounds and enabling a future for Miranda and Ferdinand.

The Goddess appears and sings a rendition of Stormy Weather while all characters observe. The musical moment underscores the theatrical, revel-like mood of the island's final act. The scene blends spectacle with resolution as relationships are mended.

The film shifts back to the study where Ariel sings Prospero to sleep before running away. The quiet moment contrasts with the earlier chaos and signals the shift from magic to rest. Suspending the dreamlike events, the island returns to a peaceful stillness.

Prospero directly addresses the viewer through a voice-over, declaring that these revels have ended. With that final note, the credits begin to roll and the tale reaches its close.
