Carla Moran is violently assaulted by an invisible entity in her Los Angeles bungalow during the night. The brutal incident marks the start of a cycle of terrifying paranormal events that threaten her and her children.

A surge of paranormal disturbances erupts around the Moran house, driving Carla and her children to seek safety at their friend Cindy Nash's home. The family hopes the shift will quiet the manifestations, but fear and uncertainty linger.

After returning to her home, Carla is nearly killed when her car inexplicably veers out of control in traffic. The terrifying incident deepens the sense that something unseen is menacing her and pushes Cindy to push for professional help.

Carla meets psychiatrist Dr. Sneiderman and agrees to undergo therapy to cope with the trauma. Sneiderman notes the possibility of psychological origins but keeps an open mind about potential supernatural causes.

Another attack occurs in Carla's bathroom, leaving bite marks and bruises in places Carla could not reach. Sneiderman suspects self-inflicted injuries and questions the authenticity of the haunting.

Carla recounts sexual abuse, a teenage pregnancy, and the violent death of her first husband, explaining how these memories may shape her responses. Sneiderman acknowledges the depth of her trauma while evaluating the nature of the assignments before them.

Carla is attacked again in front of her children, and her son attempts to intervene as an electric force pins Carla to the bed. The boy's wrist is broken during the struggle, escalating the family's fear and urgency.

Dr. Weber leads a staff meeting and argues that the Moran events are a mass delusion born of Carla's damaged psyche and sexual frustration. Carla leaves unsettled but determined to be believed.

Carla's boyfriend Jerry Anderson visits and witnesses the entity holding her down on the bed while she is raped and fondled by invisible fingers. He fights to intervene, but the experience drives a wedge between them and ends their relationship.

Cooley's team constructs a full mock-up of Carla's home to lure the entity into a trap and freeze it with liquid helium. The entity seizes control of the jets, the tanks explode, and a massive ice block traps it before it vanishes, convincing Carla that her experiences were real.

Dr. Weber refuses to acknowledge what he witnessed, while Carla and her supporters cling to the witness testimony. Carla returns home the next day, a disembodied voice greets her with a menacing 'welcome home' as she leaves with her family for Texas; the attacks lessen in frequency but do not fully stop.
