The Disappeared

Matthew Ryan is discharged after his breakdown linked to Tom's disappearance. He begins to hear Tom's voice and see glimpses of him, feelings of guilt driving him to search for answers. The discharge sets him on a quest to understand what happened to his brother.

Amy gives Matthew a newspaper clipping about a local psychic, Shelley Cartwright, and suggests he seeks her help. He then travels to Shelley's flat seeking guidance. The encounter hints that supernatural clues may point to Tom's fate.

Shelley tells Matthew that Tom's ghost might be trying to warn him of danger. Rebecca, Shelley's daughter, provides a drawing of a girl that seems connected to the disappearances. The conversation deepens the sense that the hauntings are guiding Matthew toward the truth.

Matthew and Simon realize Rebecca's drawing depicts Sophie, Simon's missing sister. They learn Shelley died in a fire years earlier, complicating the mystery. The discovery links Tom's case to Sophie and Shelley's past.

Matthew returns to Shelley's flat to find it burnt out, suggesting the fire is connected to the haunting. He concludes that Shelley's ghost helped him, and Rebecca's drawing carried the crucial clue about Sophie.

Matthew's father schedules his re-commitment, forcing him to flee. He hides in the burnt-out Shelley's flat, seeking safety and answers while struggling with his grip on reality.

In the ruined flat, Matthew has a vision showing that the abductor who took Tom and Sophie burned the place down, with the name Ballan scratched on the floor. The vision makes him suspect the parish priest is the killer. It ties the fire to the man he suspects and raises the stakes for his search.

Matthew goes to the church to search for Tom and Sophie, warning Simon that Ballan is the killer. He descends to the crypt where Sophie is found alive but terrified. Ballan knocks Matthew out, and the tension escalates as Simon moves to investigate Ballan's role.

Simon arrives at the church with Matthew's father and confronts Ballan, who pretends not to have seen them. Ballan discovers and kills Simon in the crypt, escalating the danger and forcing Matthew to flee.

Matthew awakens outside the church to find Simon dead and Ballan taunting him with Tom's cries. Enraged, he beat Ballan with a rock and escapes into the night, his actions bringing the truth closer to light.

Back in hospital, Matthew learns Sophie is safe and that Tom and the real Adrian Ballan were found in the crypt. The killer was an impostor who has escaped, and the police are still searching for him.

Reading a newspaper clipping about Shelley and the suicide of Amy, Matthew realizes Amy's ghost had been guiding him all along. The clues align: Amy's presence, Shelley, and the drawings all point to the same truth.

Tom is properly buried in the churchyard, bringing a sense of closure for Matthew. He and his father also visit Amy's grave in a nearby cemetery, marking reconciliation with the past.
