The Breed

A couple arrives by sailboat to a small, uninhabited island once owned by their late uncle. The woman wanders away from the group and discovers a fenced-off, seemingly abandoned compound, where she is attacked by unknown creatures.

Brothers Matt and John travel by seaplane to the island for a week of fun, and they are joined by friends Nicki, Sara, and Noah. They settle into their uncle's cabin and begin exploring the island.

The group finds a puppy that growls at Noah and darts outside. John and Sara pursue it and are ambushed by an older, vicious dog that bites Sara.

The following morning, they meet a man who was on the island at the start, now covered in blood, who warns them about the dogs. A pack of dogs attacks and kills him, forcing the group back to the cabin.

Inside the cabin, Nikki is attacked by dogs, and John shoots an arrow that accidentally traverses Nikki's calf. The siege continues as more dogs close in around the cabin.

With the dogs pressing the siege, the group fights back and impales one dog with a fire iron. The threat grows direr as additional canines threaten the cabin.

The group decides to leave, but the dogs surround the seaplane and chew through the mooring ropes, dragging the craft away. John tries to swim to the plane, pursued by dogs, and manages to reach the dock.

Back at the house, Sara begins to display canine-like behavior, signaling the dogs' influence. The survivors plan to reach a storage shed to drive their uncle's Mercedes toward help.

They retrieve the Mercedes but the car won't start, and a night-time power outage traps them inside. Noah heads to the basement fuse box and is killed by dogs; Matt is bitten as the group takes shelter in the attic.

In the attic, they discover paperwork showing the dogs were bred and trained as part of an Army facility program. The documents reveal the genetic modification behind the dogs' aggression.

The next morning the dogs have left. Matt and John pop the Mercedes' clutch to begin an escape, but Sara refuses to leave and is attacked, falling out a window and impaling herself and a dog on a post.

Matt and John drive to the abandoned training facility and learn that the dogs were genetically enhanced for combat. John finds communications equipment while a power cable is disconnected, cutting their signal.

Matt, bitten, realizes he can sense the dogs and fights them with a baseball bat as John is knocked down by an electrical shock. A power surge triggers a backdraft, and Nicki lures the dogs into the building, causing an explosion that kills all the dogs inside.

John tells Matt that a nearby couple’s boat is waiting, and Nicki drives the Mercedes off the pier while they slip into the water and swim toward the boat. They sail away toward medical facilities, hoping to outrun any lingering threat.

In the last shot, the friends open the sleeping quarters of the boat and a stowaway dog leaps out. The scene hints that danger may not be over yet.
