Baran, Şener Şen, is released after a 35-year jail term and returns to his home village in Viranşehir, a town in Eastern Turkey. The world he knew has shifted dramatically while he was away: the village itself lies partially submerged after a large dam was built, and the social code of the place has shifted with it. This opening turn of events sets Baran on a path where memory, revenge, and survival collide in surprising ways.
He quickly discovers that the man who orchestrated his downfall, Berfo Kamran Usluer, has risen to power as Mahmut Şahoğlu, a wealthy magnate whose new status stands in stark contrast to the life Baran left behind. Berfo’s betrayal was personal as well as practical: he stole Baran’s gold, had him jailed on Mountain Cudi, and then forced Keje Sermin Hürmeriç into a marriage against her will. Keje, who has chosen a vow of silence in protest, endures her new life in captivity as Berfo’s grip tightens and his fortune grows.
On a train toward Istanbul, Baran crosses paths with Cumali Uğur Yücel, a young man who has spent his days drifting through Beyoğlu’s alleys, dives, and gambling rooms. Cumali carries contraband and, sensing Baran’s experience and strength, entrusts him with a package to be returned at a designated address. Their meeting is brief but fateful, laying the groundwork for a complex, sometimes uneasy alliance as both men navigate a world where loyalties are fractured and every move can be watched.
Baran’s drive to confront Berfo intensifies when he sees Berfo’s powerful motorcade on television and realizes how far his once-close friend has fallen. He is detained and then released into Berfo’s mansion, a place where the old friend’s transformation into a ruthless, guarded tycoon becomes painfully clear. It’s here that Keje’s silence weighs heavily on Baran’s heart, and the truth of his decades-long survival comes to light: he endured prison not for vengeance alone, but to wait for the chance to be with her again.
Meanwhile, Cumali learns that Sedat, who is Emel’s lover, was not Emel’s brother as initially believed. Sedat’s disappearance, coupled with Emel’s own peril, pulls Cumali deeper into the dangerous network surrounding Demircan, a drug lord who has begun to grow suspicious about missing shipments. Cumali and Baran, now allied by circumstance if not by sentiment, set out to trace Emel and Sedat, a mission that ends in tragedy as Cumali, despite Baran’s attempts to restrain him, shoots both of them in the heat of pursuit.
The danger escalates as Cumali and his companions are abducted and held in a mobster’s workshop. Baran steps in, insisting on a deal: the missing funds must be paid, and Cumali must be spared. Keje’s stubbornness becomes a turning point when she persuades Berfo to write a cheque to cover the debt. Yet Berfo’s final act of defiance—failing to cash the cheque—sparks a brutal response from Demircan, who orders Cumali killed in broad daylight. Cumali dies after a desperate climb to the rooftop, where Baran holds him as his life slips away.
Fueled by grief and fury, Baran launches a violent vendetta. He targets the pimp who controls Sevim Abla (Sevim Abla), then storms Demircan’s operation, shooting down Demircan’s men and killing the mobster himself despite pleas for mercy. His mercy is spent; the path to Berfo’s mansion culminates in a direct confrontation where Berfo, in a stubborn last stance, argues that his crimes were driven by a desperate love for Keje. Baran, unmoved, ends the betrayal with a single shot.
Now a marked fugitive, Baran eludes capture for a few days, but the noose tightens when the police close in. In the final firefight, he loses a talisman he believed made him bulletproof, interpreting the loss as a sign of his end. He walks to the edge and takes his own life, leaving the village with a quiet, somber ending. As the shooting star traces its arc across the night sky, the elder Ceren Ana Zübeyde Erden looks on, mourning the passing of a legend of the mountains and the old orders that once defined Baran’s world.
