The Winged Tiger

In a turbulent martial-arts world, a legendary manual that could turn a practitioner into a supreme fighter is split into two halves: the odd-numbered pages rest with the Yin family, while the even-numbered pages are kept by the Winged Tiger Teng Fei Cheng Lui. The late Master Yin Tien Feng, sometimes called the King of Hades, schemes to claim the entire manual and arranges his sister Yin Cai-fa Angela Yu Chien to marry Teng in order to seize the other half. To prevent this ominous plan from succeeding, the Chief of Huashan and the leaders of the Eight Schools dispatch the renowned martial artist Guo Jiou Ru Chen Hung-Lieh—an expert in ventriloquism who can rival Teng’s skill—to impersonate Teng and infiltrate the Yin household, aiming to steal away the remaining pages and stop Yin from using the manual for evil.

Guo arrives at the Peaceful Tavern and, posing as Teng Fei, gets drawn into a web of deception as Teng’s own plan to win Yin’s hand is revealed. Teng is soon attacked by rival martial artists hungry for Teng’s half of the manual, and Guo, still in disguise, faces the same onslaught. In a tense confrontation, Teng unexpectedly crosses paths with Guo, and the two join forces to cut down the attackers. After the smoke clears, Teng confronts Guo about his true identity, and Guo’s mission is laid bare—to obtain Yin’s half and guard against its misuse. A brutal fight ensues in which Guo defeats Teng and the Soul-Sucking Lad, seizing Teng’s half and the opportunity to advance his own plan to share the full knowledge with the martial world.

Meanwhile, Master Liu Yi-ying Fang Mian and her daughter Yan-qing (Annette Sam) arrive with a message from the Right Schools urging Guo to destroy the dangerous manual to minimize future danger. Guo refuses, believing the world must be guarded by its complete wisdom, and breaks off a few pages from Yin’s half to safeguard against a worst-case fate. He entrusts Yan-qing with a miniature sword—an instrument whose blade can heal only when certain conditions are met—so that, should he fall, she can aid him.

When Guo finally reaches Yin Forest, he encounters Yin [Master Yin], You Ming [Wei Ping-ao], and the Three Officers, Jade Face Bai Yun-sheng [David Chiang Da-Wei], Iron Hand Zhao Bi, and Golden Face Liu Kun [Tong Tin-hei]. Guo presents Yin with his portion of the manual and, privately, feigns romantic interest to Cai-fa, all the while Yin and You Ming plotting to trap him and steal the other half. Cai-fa, moved by Guo’s sincerity, becomes torn between love and loyalty as she watches Guo navigate a treacherous maze of loyalties and betrayals. Yan-qing slips in to deliver messages, and Cai-fa’s feelings quickly complicate the conflict.

As Guo inches closer to completing his mission, Cai-fa’s affections deepen, and she warns Guo of the danger—yet she herself falls deeper into peril as the Yin forces close in. After a dramatic sequence of secret meetings, ambushes, and swift eliminations of Yin’s guards, Guo defeats You Ming and the Three Officers, and tries to escape with Cai-fa. Yin finally confronts Guo, determined to claim the entire manual, but Cai-fa reveals the truth: Yin never hid the full manuscript in the cave and instead wanted the pages Guo ripped from the odd-numbered half. In a final, desperate struggle, Cai-fa pulls the sword embedded in her, slices through Yin’s whip, and Guo delivers the killing blow to Yin.

With Yin defeated and Yin Cai-fa mortally wounded, Guo carries Cai-fa’s body toward Mount Hua, carrying the weight of a hard-won truth and a vow to honor the teachings—while the fate of the divided manual remains a delicate balance between power, responsibility, and the hope of a martial world that might one day find peace.
