Ten Tigers of Kwangtung

Chai Min Yu was an anti-Qing revolutionary being pursued by the Manchu General Liang. He was targeted because of his involvement in the resistance against Manchu rule. The hunter's chase nearly ends in his capture before a masked rescuer intervenes.

Li Jen Chiao, a former Shaolin fighter who now runs a pawn shop, rescued Chai Min Yu during the pursuit. He was a loyal supporter of the anti-Qing cause and used his hidden martial arts skills to pull Chai Min Yu to safety, then hid him behind his pawn shop to shield him from General Liang's forces.

Tan Ming, Li Jen Chiao's younger brother, was sent to recruit Wan Yi Ling and Su He Hu for the revolutionary cause. He arrived with an urgent message but immediately clashed with them, likely due to his quick-to-anger temperament. The confrontation occurred before he could explain the situation, but Li Jen Chiao's subsequent explanation won them over and secured their allegiance.

The Shaolin masters, including Wan Yi Ling, Su He Hu, Wong Yin Lin, Wong Kei Ying, Beggar Su Chan, Iron-finger Chung, Chu Yu Sheng, and Tieh Chow Tsan, joined to help Chai Min Yu escape from General Liang and to assist in the mission to strike down the Manchu official. Their shared background as ex-Shaolin brothers and their opposition to Manchu rule unified them around the revolutionary cause.

The Ten Tigers formed when Li Jen Chiao recruited various martial arts masters to protect the revolutionary Chai Min Yu from General Liang. After the initial betrayal by Li's rival, which prompted the Manchu official to marshal an army, Li convinced Beggar Su to join the cause. Together with the other Shaolin veterans, they became the legendary group known as the Ten Tigers of Kwangtung.

The film weaves two timelines: the historical formation of the Ten Tigers when Shaolin masters protected the revolutionary Chai Min Yu, and a present-day conflict where older survivors like Su Chan and Su He Hu plot revenge against Tung Chi, his brother Tung Pa, and their nephew. The present-day characters are either survivors or descendants connected to the original Ten Tigers, continuing the cycle of loyalty and vengeance.

Li Jen Chiao chose his pawn shop as a hiding spot because it provided cover as an ordinary merchant business. The location allowed him to shield the revolutionary without drawing suspicion from Manchu authorities while using his secret martial arts abilities to defend him if needed.

The original Ten Tigers include Li Jen Chiao (the pawn shop owner and former Shaolin), his brother Tan Ming, Wan Yi Ling, Su He Hu, Wong Yin Lin, Wong Kei Ying, Beggar Su Chan, Iron-finger Chung, Chu Yu Sheng, and Tieh Chow Tsan. These martial arts masters united to protect the revolutionary and oppose General Liang.

The assembled Shaolin brothers helped Chai Min Yu escape from General Liang's forces while simultaneously mounting a coordinated plan to kill the Manchu general. The operation required the combined skills of all ten masters and represented the climactic clash between the anti-Qing resistance and Manchu authority.

In the present timeline, older versions of Su Chan and Su He Hu orchestrate a counterattack against Tung Chi, his brother Tung Pa, and their nephew. They seek to kill them before the group can eliminate the remaining Ten Tigers. This revenge plot stems from the ongoing vendetta and the threat to the surviving members of the original Ten Tigers alliance.

The film opens with Tung Chi and his nephew seeking revenge for General Liang, establishing the cycle of retaliation that continues in the present.
