The Signal

Three students from MIT, Jonah, Nic, and Haley, set off on a road trip to California. Along the way, tensions begin to build between Haley and Nic, who feels compelled to protect her due to his muscular dystrophy.

During their hotel stay, Nic and Jonah receive a series of disturbing emails from a hacker known as NOMAD. This hacker had previously threatened their academic standings and sparked anxiety about their past.

Determined to confront NOMAD, Nic and Jonah track him to an abandoned house in Nevada. Their search quickly spins out of control when they hear a scream from Haley, prompting urgency in their quest to find her.

In a shocking twist, the friends witness Haley being drawn into the sky before she disappears in a blinding light. This unexpected event leaves both Nic and Jonah in a state of disbelief as they grapple with the supernatural.

Nic regains consciousness in a sterile underground research facility, where he meets Dr. Wallace Damon. The interrogation reveals unsettling truths about Haley and the existence of an extraterrestrial biological entity (EBE).

In a surreal encounter, Dr. Damon presents video footage of an EBE to Nic. He learns that his legs, once weak, are now entirely numb, a shocking revelation that complicates his situation.

As the tension inside the facility rises, a security alarm goes off, leading to Jonah's sudden vanishing. When Nic inquires about him, he receives the heart-wrenching news that Jonah was 'never recovered' from the abandoned house.

Determined to save Haley, Nic attempts a daring escape from the facility. However, he discovers that his legs have been replaced with advanced alien prosthetics, granting him new abilities.

With newfound strength, Nic manages to break free and reunites with Haley in a desolate desert. They commandeer an 18-wheeler truck, seeking a way around the vast canyon surrounding the research facility.

At a visitor center, Nic and Haley run into Jonah, who is disguised as a facility staff member. He reveals his own struggles and lost limbs due to alien technology, demonstrating the profound impact of their ordeal.

As Nic, Haley, and Jonah reach a military checkpoint, Jonah attempts to hack into their systems to facilitate their escape. Tragically, he is shot, sacrificing himself for Nic and Haley's chance at freedom.

In a tense showdown, Nic and Haley are confronted by Dr. Damon and his armed forces while trying to cross a bridge. Damon reveals his true identity as NOMAD, intensifying the conflict between them.

As tensions escalate, Haley is taken away by helicopter, leaving Nic distraught. Dr. Damon taunts him about being 'the perfect integration of human will and alien technology,' leaving Nic in turmoil.

Fueled by emotion and newfound power from his bionic legs, Nic charges toward Haley's helicopter. He crashes into an invisible barrier, breaking through in a moment of determination but uncertainty about his next steps.

Nic finds himself in an alien space habitat, initially mistaking it for another facility. As he gazes out the window, he realizes he is on the edge of docking at the aliens' home world, fundamentally changing his understanding of the situation.
