The Shepherd: Border Patrol

A former New Orleans cop, Jack Robideaux, arrives in Columbus, New Mexico with his pet rabbit to take a border patrol post under Captain Ramona García. He carries the memory of his daughter Kassie, whose death still fuels his mission. The border patrol is about to confront a dangerous drug-smuggling operation.

Operators funnel migrants and bricks of heroin through the porous border while smugglers outfit victims with C4 vests. Interfering could trigger detonations that kill bystanders and agents alike, raising the stakes for the patrol. The setup shows how dangerous the smuggling network is.

A rogue special forces unit led by Benjamin Meyers and his right-hand man Karp has begun killing rival drug kingpins and taking over the operation. They extend their influence across the smuggling networks, operating with lethal impunity. The border patrol’s assault plans are compromised from within.

Jack and his partner Billy Pawnell pursue the smugglers across the border into Mexican territory. Jack is unexpectedly arrested by local police who are working for Meyers, turning the pursuit into a trap. The operation tightens Meyers’s grip on the area as Jack is sidelined from the field.

Billy’s loyalty is revealed as he works for Meyers, facilitating the operation. Meyers and Karp kidnap Captain Ramona García and her Uncle Emile, escalating the danger for Jack and his allies. The abductions heighten the personal stakes of the mission.

Meyers executes Emile by throwing him into a pool of water wired with live electricity. The brutal act demonstrates Meyers’s reach and ruthlessness. Ramona and Jack are left to grapple with the personal cost of the operation.

Jack learns that Meyers's drugs killed his daughter Kassie, who was sixteen, about three months earlier. Kassie’s rabbit, once hers, now serves as a memory Jack carries with him. He swears on Kassie’s grave to dismantle the operation and avenge her death.

Jack and Ramona manage to free themselves and turn the tables on their captors, killing Billy who had been aiding Meyers. They press their escape and begin to close in on Meyers’s stronghold. The momentum shifts in their favor as they fight through Meyers's men.

Ramona contacts Mexican police for assistance and they increasingly clash with Meyers's forces as she and Jack move toward an escape route. A vehicle pursuit ends with Ramona being knocked out in a car crash. The pair continue fighting toward a final confrontation.

Jack faces Karp, a martial arts expert, in a brutal duel. Karp lands a heavy kick that slows Jack, but he nevertheless overpowers and kills Karp. The defeat removes a key obstacle for Jack in Meyers's compound.

Meyers confronts Jack and prepares to shoot him when Jack hurls an explosive collar toward Meyers and detonates it. Meyers is eliminated in the blast, and the operation begins to crumble. The encounter marks the turning point that ends Meyers's hold over the operation.

In the finale, Ramona urges Jack to return to New Orleans with his wife and leave the border life behind. Jack contemplates the suggestion while carrying Kassie’s memory and the rabbit. The film closes on a note of cautious recovery and a possible new beginning.
