The Room

Johnny is a successful banker living in a San Francisco townhouse with his fiancée, Lisa. Despite their apparent stability, Lisa begins feeling disillusioned with their relationship, sowing the seeds of discord.

Feeling neglected, Lisa seduces Johnny's best friend, Mark, beginning a secret affair. Their relationship complicates the dynamics between the three individuals, causing growing tension.

After overhearing Lisa confess her infidelity to her mother, Johnny becomes suspicious and takes drastic measures. He decides to attach a tape recorder to their phone to capture any conversations that might reveal the identity of her lover.

Johnny and Mark come to the aid of their neighbor, Denny, who is being threatened by an armed drug dealer named Chris-R. This act of heroism further strengthens Johnny's bond with Denny, whom he financially and emotionally supports.

Denny admits to Johnny that he is infatuated with Lisa, which creates an awkward situation. Although Johnny sympathizes with Denny, he advises him to focus on one of his classmates instead of pursuing a relationship with Lisa.

As tensions rise, Lisa begins to claim that Johnny has become physically abusive. This false accusation deeply affects Johnny, leaving him emotionally distressed and prompting him to seek advice from Mark and his psychologist, Peter.

On the rooftop, Mark confides in Peter about his guilt over the affair. When Peter figures out it is with Lisa, Mark loses control momentarily and suspends Peter over the edge, only to calm down shortly after.

At Johnny's surprise birthday party, a moment of betrayal unfolds as Steven catches Lisa kissing Mark. Lisa tries to distract Johnny by falsely announcing that they are expecting a child, escalating the emotional turmoil.

The evening culminates in chaos as Mark and Johnny confront each other about the affair. Tensions flare, leading Johnny to kick everyone out of his apartment in a fit of rage, further isolating himself.

Johnny, overwhelmed with despair, locks himself in the bathroom and verbally lashes out at Lisa for her betrayal. He then listens to the recorded call, which pushes him further into emotional turmoil.

In a moment of utter despair, Johnny has a nervous breakdown and tragically takes his own life by shooting himself. This devastating act marks the climax of the film, irrevocably impacting everyone involved.

Following Johnny's death, Lisa reveals to Mark that they are now free to be together. However, Mark is disgusted by Lisa's manipulative behavior and ultimately rejects her, leading to a deeper sense of loss.

Alongside Denny, Mark waits for the police to arrive, lingering in the aftermath of the tragedy. This moment signifies the end of their distorted relationships, overshadowed by grief and regret.
