The Return of Godzilla

A Japanese fishing vessel, Yahata Maru, drifts toward shore as Daikoku Island erupts. A giant monster rises from the volcano, signaling Godzilla's return. The event marks the beginning of a chain of life-or-death consequences for those watching from land and sea.

A few days later, reporter Goro Maki finds Yahata Maru intact but deserted. He discovers Hiroshi Okumura badly wounded among the dead crew, barely clinging to life. A giant Shockirus sea louse attacks Maki, but Okumura saves him from the creature.

Back in Tokyo, Okumura recognizes from photographs that the creature is Godzilla, a living, invincible nuclear threat. Maki prepares to publish his account, but the news remains confidential at first. The revelation sets in motion a government response to an extraordinary menace.

Maki's account is withheld from publication, drawing him into official briefings. He visits Professor Hayashida, whose parents were lost in the 1954 Godzilla attack, and learns that Godzilla is an almost unstoppable nuclear weapon. In Hayashida's laboratory, Naoko Okumura appears, linking personal tragedy to the scientific chase.

A Soviet submarine is destroyed in the Pacific, and the Soviets blame the Americans, igniting a diplomatic crisis that could escalate to nuclear war. Japan steps forward to reveal Godzilla's involvement, reframing the crisis as a kaiju threat rather than isolated incidents. Global tensions tighten as nations weigh their responses.

The Japanese cabinet debates defense measures as the threat looms larger. A new weapon, the Super X flying fortress, is unveiled to counter Godzilla, and the military is put on high alert. Public fear mixes with strategic planning as authorities prepare for a long, dangerous confrontation.

Godzilla arrives at the Mihama nuclear plant and feeds on the reactor. He is momentarily distracted by a flock of birds, allowing the plant to be left in ruins and suggesting possible signals that could lure him elsewhere. The encounter confirms Godzilla's capacity to improvise and threaten critical infrastructure.

Hayashida and geologist Minami propose using a homing signal to lure Godzilla to Mount Mihara on Ōshima Island. They hope to trigger a volcanic eruption that could trap the creature inside. The plan fuses scientific insight with tactical desperation.
