In the final years of the Antichrist's reign, a nuclear war has devastated the world. Mutants and doomsday survivors roam the landscape as governments tighten their grip on power. An underground movement of Christian believers forms to resist oppression and await a promised return.

David Michaels is part of the growing underground movement and is tasked with driving an RV across the devastated nation. His journey is to reach Albuquerque to join other believers and await Jesus Christ's final return. He must stay ahead of UNITE's infiltrators while traversing radiation-scarred plains.

During the trek, David rescues Jimmy, a mutant survivor, and introduces him to the path of faith. Jimmy shows courage by embracing the message and later dies heroically to save others from danger posed by Jerry. His sacrifice reinforces the group's resolve to endure in a broken world.

Connie Wright is a government agent pretending to be a Christian, secretly working to uncover the believers' hideout. She rescues David from his UNITE internment and joins the journey, hoping to locate their sanctuary. Her presence complicates the group's dynamic as trust becomes a central issue.

Linda, a brilliant radiation researcher, and her daughter Jody are rescued by David's group. Jody's spoiled attitude begins to soften as she is exposed to David's preaching. Linda remains rational and skeptical, yet she provides essential scientific perspective for survival.

Linda's radiation expertise guides the group through contaminated zones and dangerous terrain. Her scientific background becomes crucial to navigating the post-nuclear world and protecting everyone from radiation exposure. She battles guilt about her past involvement with the doomsday project.

David grows suspicious that Linda might be a spy, given that government forces seem to know their every move. Ultimately, Jody is discovered to have transmitted their position inadvertently, while Connie had done so deliberately. The group becomes more wary as trust cracks begin to appear.

Connie is captured by a senior UNITE officer who is pursuing the believers. In transit, their van loses control and crashes into a train, killing both Connie and the officer. The loss foreshadows the collapse of trusted protections around the group.

In the wake of Connie's capture, Jerry remains a looming threat as a UNITE enforcer. Jimmy sacrifices himself to protect the others from Jerry, demonstrating the group's resolve to endure. Jerry's menace lingers as the survivors press on toward Albuquerque.

The narrative culminates in a confrontation at the UNITE military base. A badly wounded Jerry is shown among the ruins, expressing regret for his actions as he rips off his armband. The base is destroyed by explosions, ending his threat for good.

In the aftermath, Jody formally accepts Jesus Christ as her Savior, marking a pivotal personal turning point. Her faith contrasts with Linda's lingering skepticism and the unsolved questions about belief. The moment signals hope amid the ruined landscape.

David and the remaining believers arrive in Albuquerque to join others and await Jesus Christ's final return. Linda continues to wrestle with belief, while the group draws strength from their shared hope. The world remains dangerous, but faith provides a sense of purpose.
