In 1926, the story shifts to Cairo, where an eager librarian and aspiring Egyptologist, Evelyn Carnahan, stumbles upon a mysterious box and a map presented by her bumbling brother Jonathan. This treasure map claims to lead to the lost city of Hamunaptra, a legendary site believed to house untold riches. However, the museum curator, Dr. Bey, ridicules the notion of Hamunaptra's existence, inadvertently damaging the map. It is revealed that Jonathan swiped the map from none other than the imprisoned O’Connell, who knows precisely where the city lies.
