Lost City Raiders

In the year 2048, the planet is gripped by a sweeping flood as climate change has driven much of the surface beneath rising seas. In the city-state of New Vatican, Cardinal Battaglia [Michael Mendl] believes that a legendary artifact—the so-called “scepter of Moses”—could part the waters and restore land to the planet. To pursue this bold aim, he reaches out to John Kubiac and his sons, Jack Kubiac and Thomas Kubiac. The Kubiac clan makes their living raiding sunken cities, seeking valuables lost beneath the waves, and they are drawn into a high-stakes mission: join Brother Fontana Peter Butler and Father Giacopetti Jeremy Crutchley aboard a submarine to locate the scepter and save the earth.

But powerful forces stand in their way. Nicholas Filiminov is a shrewd land dealer who has already engineered rising waters to seal off the remaining dry land. His ultimate plan is chilling: force survivors into floating communities, buy the submerged real estate for next to nothing, and then lower the water again to reclaim even more territory. To further his ambitions, he enlists the help of Giovanna Becker, Jack’s ex, to help hunt for the scepter and gain control over the new world’s geography.

Amid the political and financial intrigue, a waitress named Cara Elodie Frenck joins the Kubiac team as the ship’s mechanic. She quickly proves herself an indispensable ally, working closely with Jack Kubiac and Thomas Kubiac as danger mounts. Their bond deepens after their father is killed while resisting Filiminov’s men, a death that steels the siblings’ resolve and widens the stakes of the voyage.

Meanwhile, an unstable figure emerges in Father Giacopetti, who views the Rising as God’s punishment for humankind’s sins. His erratic interventions add a layer of religious fervor to the crisis, complicating the crew’s mission and casting doubt on the group’s path forward. Yet the Kubiacs press on, driven by the prospect of ending the flood’s grip and restoring some measure of normalcy to their world.

The expedition uncovers an ancient chamber network, and a decisive moment arrives when they activate a hidden chamber. The activation triggers a gas-driven explosion that effects a dramatic lowering of the floodwaters, offering a tangible glimmer of hope. The team quickly realizes that this breakthrough, dramatic as it is, has limitations: the Mediterranean Sea drops by about ten meters, but the rest of the globe remains largely unchanged. They still face vast challenges and an unpredictable political landscape as Filiminov’s scheme continues to loom over every decision.

As the crew processes this partial victory, they are drawn into the broader mystery hinted at by the map: a total of thirty-one other chambers await discovery, each potentially capable of altering the global tides in different ways. The narrative tracks their careful, collaborative effort to interpret the map, balance technical danger with ethical concerns, and weigh personal loyalties against the planet’s survival.

With real danger persisting and the future uncertain, the team gathers for a quiet meal, a moment of camaraderie that underscores their shared loss and stubborn hope. The end leaves viewers with a sense of possibility and a lingering curiosity about what lies in the remaining chambers. The map’s promise hints at further discoveries, more decisions, and the ongoing struggle to decide what kind of rebuilt world might emerge if the others can be unlocked.
