The Meteor Man

Jefferson Reed intervenes when the Golden Lords threaten a woman on a city street in Washington, DC. He escapes by hiding in a dumpster, but as he crawls out, a glowing green meteor strikes him, leaving him with severe injuries. He is rushed to the hospital, where his life hangs in the balance.

A fragment of the meteorite is recovered from the crash site and picked up by a vagrant named Marvin. The fragment will become the source of Jeff's future powers and the key to how the events unfold. The location is described as the incident site on a city street.

Days after the collapse, Jeff wakes in the hospital with his injuries miraculously healed. He discovers he has gained extraordinary abilities, including flight, x-ray vision, laser vision, invulnerability, and healing. He also learns he can telepathically communicate with his dog Ellington.

Jeff confides in his parents, Ted and Maxine, who urge him to use his powers for good. His mother designs a superhero costume, and he adopts the mantle of Meteor Man. With his family's support, he begins to test his powers and plan his first community intervention.

As Meteor Man, Jeff targets crime in his neighborhood, shutting down crack houses and stopping robberies. His actions earn him trust from locals and the police, and he helps to bring a fragile peace among rival gangs. He uses his powers to protect the community and establish his mission.

The Golden Lords learn Meteor Man's secret identity and realize his powers may be waning. Violence spikes as the community fears a breakdown in order, and some propose making a deal with the gang to restore control. Jeff's double life becomes more dangerous as the criminals close in.

Jeff stresses that people should stand up for their beliefs rather than capitulate to criminals. The community begins organizing to take action and protect their streets. The mood shifts from fear to determination as locals coordinate with allies like Marvin and Earnest.

Jeff, now weaker as his powers fade, fights Simon and is beaten. Earnest Moses intervenes by throwing a vinyl record at Simon, knocking the gun from his hand. Marvin uses the meteor fragment to strip the Golden Lords of their firearms, empowering the locals and their canine allies.

During the battle, the meteor fragment is dropped and Jeff and Simon rush to grab the rock from opposite sides. The exchange grants both of them renewed, amplified powers, and they collide in a heated brawl. The community rallies as Marvin's dogs join the fight.

Costumed as Meteor Man again, Jeff corners Simon and drains his powers by absorbing them, effectively neutralizing the rest of the Golden Lords. The locals drive the gang away and Ellington is left injured on the street as Jeff's powers fade once more.

Jeff uses his x-ray vision to assess Ellington's broken ribs, and his powers fade as he prepares to act. Marvin uses the last of his meteor fragment energy to heal Ellington's injuries, restoring the dog's health and preventing further complications.

Anthony Byers and his gang confront Meteor Man but are outnumbered by the Bloods and Crips who come to protect him. The gang members are arrested after attempting to flee, in a display of local law enforcement and community solidarity, including a humorous note about their Bahamas plans.

With the immediate threat quelled, the neighborhood enjoys a fragile peace as residents stand together with Ellington recovering. Meteor Man remains a symbol of community protection, and Jeff contemplates how to balance his powers with his everyday life going forward.
