SSG Fred Cheaver returns home excited to reconnect with his family after serving in the military. However, unknown to him, his welcome will be far more complicated than he ever imagined.

PFC Colee Dunn and SSG T.K. Poole are on leave and hope to enjoy a trip to Las Vegas. Colee is motivated by the desire to visit her deceased boyfriend's family, while T.K. seeks a sex surrogate to cope with his injuries.

The three characters' paths cross unexpectedly when they find themselves at John F. Kennedy International Airport during a chaos-inducing blackout. With flights canceled and no options left, they decide to rent a minivan together.

Seeking independence, Colee and T.K. decide to leave Cheaver at a campsite temporarily. However, they are soon forced to flee from a looming tornado, finding shelter in a drainage ditch, which brings them closer.

While sheltering from the tornado, T.K. experiences a pivotal moment of vulnerability and hope. This sparks a shift in his attitude towards his relentless search for a sex surrogate, hinting at newfound emotional growth.

Weeks later, all three characters find themselves back at the airport, preparing to embark toward Iraq. Their lives are now intertwined, facing the unknown challenges ahead together as a unit.
