The Killing

Johnny Clay, an ex-convict, devises a plan to execute a $2 million heist at the racetrack. He believes that the high-stakes robbery is worth the risk, despite the dangers it entails, including potential imprisonment.

To carry out the heist, Johnny assembles a team of accomplices, each with their own motives for needing the money. This includes a cashier, a barman, a crooked cop, and a former alcoholic who is financing the operation.

Fay, Johnny's fiancée, expresses her worries about his risky plan, fearing his return to prison. Johnny reassures her that they can secure a better future if the heist is successful.

George Peatty, one of the accomplices, is driven by his desperate need to please his nagging wife, Sherry. Unbeknownst to him, Sherry is having an affair, further complicating his motivations for the heist.

George discovers that Sherry is spying on them during their planning session. This encounter heightens the tension, as Sherry is secretly conspiring with mobster Val Cannon to take advantage of George's involvement in the robbery.

To ensure the heist goes off without a hitch, Johnny enlists two additional men to create diversions. They plan to disrupt the racetrack during the 7th race, allowing Johnny and his crew to carry out the robbery.

At the start of the 7th race, chaos erupts when Maurice starts a brawl at Mike's bar. With the racetrack guards distracted, Johnny is able to slip into the payroll office and initiate the hold-up.

Johnny, armed with a rapid-firing shotgun, holds the clerks at gunpoint and secures $2 million in cash. In the midst of the chaos, he manages to throw the money out the window to Randy waiting below.

Nikki executes his assigned task by shooting a racehorse, causing panic at the racetrack. This diversion allows Johnny to escape, but Nikki is shot dead by a guard while trying to flee.

After the heist, the surviving members of the crew gather to wait for Johnny, but their plans unravel when Val Cannon confronts them. A deadly gunfight ensues, resulting in the loss of nearly all participants except for George.

Mortally wounded, George manages to return home and confront Sherry about her betrayal. In a tragic turn of events, he kills her before succumbing to his injuries.

Realizing the chaos his partners are in, Johnny rushes to the airport with the suitcase of cash. He and Fay plan to leave town together and start anew, purchasing tickets to Boston.

At the airport, Johnny faces a setback when he is forced to check in the large suitcase containing the loot. This seemingly harmless action sets in motion the final disaster of the heist.

Disaster strikes when the luggage truck swerves to avoid hitting a dog, causing the suitcase to fall and burst open. The money scatters all over the runway, jeopardizing all of Johnny's efforts.

As the police close in on Johnny and Fay while they attempt to escape from the airport, Johnny realizes the futility of their situation. With no taxis in sight, he reflects on the chaos that has unfolded.
