The Hospital

Dr. Bock, the Chief of Medicine at a Manhattan teaching hospital, struggles with his personal life after leaving his wife. His relationship with his children has also deteriorated, as they choose not to communicate with him during this challenging period.

The environment at the hospital becomes increasingly chaotic, symbolizing the disorganization within both the institution and Dr. Bock's life. The once-revered teaching hospital spirals downwards, facing multiple crises and public scrutiny.

Amidst the growing chaos, two doctors and a nurse lose their lives under mysterious circumstances. These tragic events are dismissed as mere coincidences, which only adds to the tension and uncertainty within the hospital.

The hospital's plan to annex a nearby decrepit apartment building to establish a drug rehabilitation center meets fierce resistance. Current residents protest, demanding alternative housing before the building is demolished, complicating the hospital's expansion efforts.

As Dr. Bock encounters seemingly insurmountable challenges at the hospital, he experiences a severe personal crisis. He openly admits to feeling powerless and contemplates ending his life due to the weight of his responsibilities and failures.

A turning point occurs when Barbara Drummond, a patient's daughter, arrives at the hospital with her father, seeking medical care. Her spirited personality and determination provide Dr. Bock with renewed motivation and a reason to carry on with hope.
