The Graduate

Benjamin Braddock returns to his family home in Pasadena, California, after completing his bachelor's degree. He feels out of place during the graduation celebration organized by his parents, who proudly boast about his accomplishments in front of their guests.

Feeling uncomfortable at the celebration, Benjamin retreats to his bedroom, where he unexpectedly meets Mrs. Robinson, the wife of his father's business partner. After an awkward conversation, she persuades him to drive her home, setting the stage for their illicit affair.

At Mrs. Robinson's home, she begins to seduce Benjamin, who initially resists but soon succumbs to her advances. To conceal their relationship, he checks into the Taft Hotel under the alias 'Gladstone' for their rendezvous.

Throughout the summer, Benjamin engages in a lazy routine, spending his days by the pool and meeting Mrs. Robinson at the hotel by night. Their affair continues as she confides in him about her unhappy marriage and life choices, laying the groundwork for further complications.

During one of their encounters, Benjamin jokingly mentions dating Elaine, Mrs. Robinson's daughter. Infuriated by the suggestion, she forbids him from pursuing her, hinting at the complexities that will follow in their relationship.

Despite Mrs. Robinson's objections, Benjamin reluctantly takes Elaine out on a date, encouraged by his parents. In an attempt to sabotage the evening, he acts heedlessly, neglecting her and taking her to a strip club, leading to a dramatic fallout.

After realizing his mistakes, Benjamin chases after Elaine, apologizing for his behavior at the club. They share a heartfelt moment, bonding over dinner and discussing their fears about the future, which brings them closer together.

While at the Taft Hotel for drinks, Elaine suspects something is off and confronts Benjamin about his secret. He admits to being involved with a married woman, leading to a tentative promise to cut ties and focus on her instead.

Mrs. Robinson threatens to expose the affair to Elaine, prompting Benjamin to reveal that the married woman is her mother. This shocking disclosure leads to Elaine expelling him from her home, shattering their fragile relationship.

Elaine returns to Berkeley for school, trying to distance herself from the whole situation. Benjamin, determined to win her back, follows her but faces rejection as Elaine briefly dates another student, Carl Smith.

Elaine eventually learns that her mother had deceived her about the nature of Benjamin's feelings, which leads her to reconsider her relationship with him. This revelation sparks hope for a reconciliation between the two.

As tensions rise, Mr. Robinson confronts Benjamin, revealing that he and Mrs. Robinson are seeking a divorce. He warns Benjamin to stay away from Elaine, which adds more pressure to Benjamin's already complicated life.

Faced with mounting pressure, Benjamin breaks into the Robinson home, desperate to find Elaine and convey his love. This culminates in a confrontation with Mrs. Robinson, who threatens to call the police.

After realizing Elaine's wedding is imminent, Benjamin drives over 300 miles to reach the church in Santa Barbara. Just before arriving, he runs out of gas, forcing him to sprint the rest of the way to stop the wedding.

Benjamin bursts into the church as Elaine's wedding ceremony concludes, capturing her attention. In a frantic bid for freedom, he blocks the doors with a cross, allowing them to escape, but their future remains uncertain as they board a bus together.
