After serving 17 long years behind bars, Martin 'Mohamed' Lundy is finally released from prison. His freedom comes as a result of the relentless efforts by the Innocence Project, bringing hope back into his life.

Upon his release, Mohamed finds a new start at the Second Chance animal shelter. Under the care of Linda Workman, he begins to rebuild his life while providing support for the animals and the people in similar situations.

Doris Lamb arrives at the shelter with her severely injured dog, seeking assistance. The veterinarian's attempts to save the dog ultimately fail, leading to the heartbreaking decision to euthanize the animal.

Devastated by the loss of her dog, Doris seeks comfort at the animal shelter. Unbeknownst to her, it is here that she will form a significant connection with Mohamed, who understands her pain.
