The Ballad of Jack and Rose

Jack Slavin, a Scottish farmer, lives in solitude on a remote island with his teenage daughter, Rose. They are isolated from the outside world, and Jack struggles with a heart condition while trying to maintain their lifestyle amidst changing times.

Kathleen arrives on the island with her two sons, Thaddius and Rodney. Rose is shocked and displeased by the new living arrangements, feeling as though Jack has hidden this major change from her.

Adjustment to rural life proves challenging for Kathleen and her sons. The different personalities of Thaddius and Rodney contribute to tension, especially as Rose tries to find her footing amidst their presence.

While Rose struggles to connect with Kathleen, she unexpectedly bonds with Rodney, appreciating his gentleness despite their differences. This budding friendship is complicating her feelings as she also finds herself drawn to Thaddius.
