In 1944, Joseph Krauzenberg, a well-known Hungarian Jewish industrialist, finds himself in a precarious situation as the Nazi regime's tentacles tighten around European assets. The Nazis are keen on seizing his wealth to fuel their war efforts, forcing Krauzenberg to act swiftly.

In a desperate search for safety, Joseph Krauzenberg enters negotiations with high-ranking Nazi officials. He reluctantly agrees to surrender his thriving business empire in a bid to secure safe passage to Switzerland for himself and his family, including his wife Rachel.

Before the negotiations reach their climax, Krauzenberg makes a heartfelt visit to his imprisoned family. He reassures them of their impending safety, unaware that the sacrifices he is making will exact a heavy toll on all involved.

As Nazi officials prepare to finalize the deal at Krauzenberg's estate, they unknowingly confront two key figures: Hans and Ingrid Vassman, who are secretly members of the Resistance. These servants have been aiding the Krauzenbergs throughout their harrowing ordeal, posing as a valet and maid.

Hans and Ingrid face an agonizing choice as they contemplate a plan to eliminate Adolf Eichmann and Heinrich Himmler. Their commitment to the Krauzenbergs clashes with their instinct for self-preservation as they navigate the complexities of their dual lives.

Nazi officer Edelhein becomes fixated on Ingrid, complicating the already delicate balance of survival for the Vassmans. Despite her pregnancy, he pursues her relentlessly, revealing the twisted morals that the Nazi regime propagates.

In a pivotal turn of events, Joseph Krauzenberg strikes an unexpected deal with German Captain Dressler. This valuable arrangement allows the Vassmans a crucial opportunity to escape, albeit under the guise of normalcy.

As the Vassmans make their escape, they encounter the final checkpoint where they confront Edelhein. It becomes evident that Edelhein has discovered Captain Dressler's deception and is fueled by vengeance stemming from his desire for retribution.

Despite Edelhein's desire for revenge, Himmler insists on honoring the original agreement regarding the Krauzenberg properties. This directive allows the Vassmans to cross the checkpoint unharmed, showcasing the complexities of loyalty and survival.

As Edelhein's determination to sabotage the Vassmans intensifies, the commanding Major at the checkpoint acts on Himmler’s orders. This crucial decision leads to Edelhein’s swift demise, marking a critical turning point in the escape.

After overcoming various obstacles, Hans and Ingrid Vassman successfully escape Nazi persecution. They are finally reunited with their families in Switzerland, bringing an end to a harrowing chapter of fear and uncertainty.

With their escape complete, the Vassmans discover a newfound sense of peace and freedom in Switzerland. Away from the threat of the Nazis, they reflect on their arduous journey and the sacrifices made for their survival.
