A fateful accident on the road—Virgil’s seizure—leaves him partially paralyzed and forever alters the trust Duddy believes he is building with Yvette. The strain sinks their relationship; Yvette leaves Duddy to shoulder the care of Virgil, who blames Duddy for the turn of events.
