The Amityville Curse

In 1974, a Catholic priest is shot to death in the parish church confession booth. After the murder, the booth is removed and stored in the basement of the clergy house. The haunting history begins to anchor the events that follow.

Twelve years after the priest's murder, psychologist Marvin and his wife Debbie purchase the old clergy house. They invite friends to help renovate and settle into the eerie residence. Debbie is unsettled by the atmosphere before repairs begin.

Debbie experiences disturbing nightmares centered on the basement and the former confession booth. Marvin suggests documenting the dreams for psychoanalytic study, while the house's noises challenge their comfort. The atmosphere grows uneasy as renovations start.

The group is visited by Mrs. Moriarty, the eccentric former church secretary. Her unnerving demeanor hints at the house's dark past. Later, she warns of trouble but is brushed off by the residents.

Marvin and Bill explore the basement and uncover the confession booth among other church artifacts. The discovery suggests a direct link between the house and the parish's murder history. A surge of unexplained activity follows, convincing everyone the house is haunted.

Poltergeist activity erupts throughout the house, forcing the group to confront the possibility that they are dealing with something supernatural. Marvin remains skeptical, while the others grow increasingly unsettled. They decide to go out for dinner to calm nerves.

At a local bar, Marvin talks with two older men about the town's paranormal activity. They reference a boy who murdered his family and hint that the house could be possessed. Debbie's fear intensifies as Mrs. Moriarty's words echo in the back of her mind.

The next day, Mrs. Moriarty is confronted by an unseen assailant and killed, her fall down the basement stairs captured on a video camcorder left by Bill. The police begin to connect the dots between the house and past murders. The identity of the priest's killer is revealed as a local teenage boy who hanged himself.

Abigail grows unsettled and leaves the house. Marvin begins deciphering Debbie's dream diaries, which Bill realizes contain Latin exorcism writings as clues to the truth behind the haunting.

Debbie dreams the truth of the priest's murder: the priest was shot by his illegitimate son, born from a secret affair with a parishioner seeking revenge. She awakens and finds Marvin dead in the confession booth, foreshadowing the priest's lineage haunting the home.

Police review the Moriarty murder footage and identify Frank as the killer by his shoes caught on tape. The investigation ties the violence to the house's haunted history and to the priest's son.

Frank pursues Debbie through the house, but Debbie burns his face and shoots him with a nail gun to stop him. Abigail returns to find Frank seemingly dead, but he wakes and strangles Abigail before Debbie impales him with a processional cross.

Debbie and Abigail are escorted out by police. A detective shows Debbie a photograph of the infant boy found at the crime scene and asks if it is hers. She confirms the infant belongs to the house, underscoring the house's lingering hold over its occupants.
