Chinnasamy lives in Sendhipatti with his mother Vellaiyammal, wife Parvathy, and sister Valli. He works by washing villagers' clothes and performing the last rites for the deceased, believing education can lift him out of disrespect tied to his status. He dreams of becoming a government servant to gain basic respect and dignity, but deceit from upper-caste men makes him perform a last rites he is not supposed to, causing him to miss his VAO exam.

Valli, a medical student and Chinnasamy's sister, is in love with Sudalaiyandi's son, a staunch casteist. The romance exposes the deep-seated caste barriers within their village and strains the family's hopes for a peaceful future. Chinnasamy grapples with the fallout as social prejudice closes in around them.

Chinnasamy abandons laundering and starts a dairy business by raising cattle and selling milk. Upper-caste men sabotage his venture, convincing others to boycott his milk and undermine his livelihood. He steels himself to endure the hostility and protect his family's livelihood.

Gandhi Periyar, once infamous for a tragedy, has reformed and now motivates Chinnasamy to persevere with the dairy business. He supports and encourages him to resist caste-based discrimination. His advocacy provides moral and strategic backing during tough times.

Sudalaiyandi and his cohorts spot Valli with his son and attack her in front of him, a brutal display of caste supremacy. Chinnasamy arrives too late, crying helplessly as he witnesses his sister endure the assault. The incident hardens the family's resolve to resist oppression.

Six months later, Pechimuthu dies. Chinnasamy is summoned to perform the last rites but declines, citing self-respect and dignity over ritual obligation. Sudalaiyandi's hostility resurfaces as the family prepares to face further tensions.

Sudalaiyandi sends Esakki to fetch a last-rite performer from neighboring villages, but the effort proves futile. Enraged, Sudalaiyandi dispatches goons to attack Chinnasamy, and his mother begs for mercy as he flees to seek safety.

At the police station, the inspector, a relative of Sudalaiyandi, falsely accuses Chinnasamy of theft and brutally thrashes him in custody. The humiliation highlights the bias he faces from authorities. The scene underscores the systemic obstacles in his fight for justice.

SP Anthonysamy arrives and rescues Chinnasamy, ordering protection for his family and issuing a shoot-on-sight directive to deter further obstruction. He also ensures Pechimuthu's body is stored in the mortuary and moves the case toward the Madras High Court's Madurai bench. The intervention shifts the trajectory of the legal battle.

Three months later, the case comes up for hearing, and Chinnasamy petitions to be classified as casteless along with fellow Scheduled Castes. Advocates engage in a heated debate over casteism, reservation, and related discriminations. The courtroom atmosphere focuses on identity and rights beyond traditional caste lines.

The judgment declares it his personal right to choose whether to perform certain rituals and asserts that profession is an individual identity, not a caste identity. It affirms that casteless status is attainable through individual rights and equality before the law. Sudalaiyandi's hopes for his son to avoid ritual duties are left unresolved but acknowledged.

Unable to see his son perform last rites, Sudalaiyandi requests a burial without rituals. The family confronts the new reality of a changing social order where ritual obligations can be reframed. The community begins adjusting to the court's direction on identity and dignity.

Chinnasamy is shown admitting his son to school, proudly filling in Tamilkudimagan as their caste on the admission form in line with the court's order. The moment marks a concrete step toward educational inclusion and social recognition. The family begins to move forward with a sense of validated dignity.
