The Prosecutor

Police detective Fok Chi-ho leads a dedicated team in chasing down an armed robbery gang. After an intense operation, they manage to catch all gang members, but the elusive leader remains free due to a lack of evidence tying him to the crime.

The release of the gang leader due to inadequate evidence deeply shakes Fok's faith in his role as a police officer. Disillusioned and frustrated, he decides to resign from the police force and take on the challenge of studying law instead.

Seven years later, Fok successfully transitions into a new career as a public prosecutor at the Department of Justice. Under the mentorship of pupil master Bao, he is eager to leverage his experiences from law enforcement into a more impactful role.

Fok receives his first case involving drug smuggling, centered on defendant Ma, who is apprehended after receiving a suspicious package from Brazil. Ma maintains his innocence, claiming he merely borrowed his address for a friend in need.

Despite Ma's insistence that he is innocent, his lawyers persuade him to accept a plea bargain that leads to a guilty plea with markedly reduced sentencing. Unbeknownst to Ma, this agreement places all responsibility on him while letting his accomplice Chan go free.

Fok grows suspicious about the plea bargain's terms when he learns that Chan is completely absolved. Fok expresses his concerns to chief prosecutor Yeung, but the deal goes ahead, further complicating Ma's situation.

While in detention, Ma discovers critical information from fellow inmates that challenges his plea. He decides to reverse his guilty plea, a move that frustrates Fok's superior, Yeung, who is set on securing a quick conviction.

During the trial, Fok's attempt to introduce doubt about the legitimacy of the plea bargain is met with resistance. Despite his effort to defend Ma, the judge’s intervention and the prosecution's stronghold lead to Ma's damning conviction.

After realizing the injustices involved, Fok seeks an audience with Uncle Ma, who initially rejects his help. Their relationship shifts dramatically when Fok saves Uncle Ma from an assassination attempt orchestrated to silence him.

Fok and Bao launch an investigation into Li, discovering a sinister connection involving Lau, the restaurant owner. Their findings reveal a conspiracy where Lau exploits vulnerable individuals for drug smuggling while Li provides misleading legal advice.

Tragedy strikes when Uncle Ma is murdered at a cha chaan teng, along with Fok's hopes of assisting Ma in his appeal. The murder heightens the urgency for Fok and Bao to gather evidence against the corrupt legal team.

In a race against time, Fok tries to track down Chan, who has substantial information about the drug ring. With the aid of Inspector Lee, they successfully find and convince Chan to testify about the operations of Li and Au.

As Fok and Chan head to court, they encounter Sang's assassins who attempt to eliminate them. Fok manages to fight off the attackers, but not without cost; Inspector Lee is grievously injured in the fray.

During the retrial, with Yeung as the prosecutor, Fok must work against the clock to deliver Chan to the courthouse in time. Chan's bravery shines through as he courageously delivers his testimony, ultimately turning the tide for Ma.

Thanks to the meticulous work of Fok and the revelations provided by Chan, Ma is finally acquitted of drug smuggling charges. Justice prevails as Au and his criminal associates receive their due penalties, marking a bittersweet triumph for Fok.
