For their latest vacation video, travel vloggers Teddy and Claire decide to rent a secluded home nestled deep within a Colorado forest. Their getaway quickly takes a bizarre turn when they encounter unexpected complications with the house’s security system. This leads them to meet their eccentric host, Rebecca, who claims to be the owner of the property. Later that evening, an unsettling feeling sets in as Teddy believes he spots someone lurking in the shadowy distance.
The following morning, the couple is dismayed to discover that their YouTube channel has been suspended. Claire begins to suspect Vera, a former host who harbors resentment towards them for a negative review that she feels destroyed her rental business. Claire is convinced that Vera has reported them out of spite.
As night falls once again, strange noises within the house make Teddy and Claire uneasy. Teddy’s discovery of a pair of dentures clogging the toilet adds to their growing sense of dread. To their astonishment, they come downstairs to find Rebecca making breakfast without invitation. They further realize that Rebecca is keeping a close eye on them with security cameras throughout the house.
The tension escalates when Vera arrives at the home, furious over their past review. Thankfully, Rebecca interjects with a menacing threat that forces Vera to leave in a hurry. Seizing the moment, Rebecca sits down for an on-camera interview, wherein she bizarrely begins with a scream. When the topic shifts to her former guests, she nostalgically recounts time spent with an elderly couple who had invited her to celebrate the holidays with them.
With dwindling viewership numbers already causing Claire to consider quitting vlogging altogether, she suggests they pivot their content towards focusing on Rebecca, hoping her eccentricities will captivate their audience. Meanwhile, Rebecca continues to unnervingly observe the couple from the shadows.
While filming scenic views from a picturesque ridge, Teddy surprises Claire with a marriage proposal. Claire excitedly accepts, but only under the impression that it’s all part of their staged video. Disheartened, Teddy realizes that Claire’s enthusiasm was merely an act for their viewers. After agreeing to postpone serious discussions about their future, they return to the house, only for Claire to find her laptop playing Rebecca’s interview video. Teddy uncovers mail addressed to Betty and Lou Jorgensen, leading them to suspect Rebecca might be an impostor.
Just as they decide to leave, Rebecca confronts them at the driveway, claiming she has something that would make an entertaining video. Despite Teddy’s reservations, Claire persuades him to follow Rebecca, craving more bizarre footage. To their horror, they discover a tree where Rebecca has Vera bound, with Rebecca forcing Claire to document a simulated stabbing. However, the situation takes a deadly twist when Rebecca truly plunges a knife into Vera, revealing her sinister intentions.
As chaos unfolds, Teddy and Claire dash back inside, locking the doors tightly while Rebecca prowls menacingly outside. Through a loudspeaker, Rebecca chillingly confesses to having murdered Betty and Lou, her wrath ignited when they denied her lodging. Meanwhile, Claire secretly manages to upload a plea for help from a computer she finds in the basement.
Things take a further dark turn when Rebecca manages to break in, capturing Claire and slitting her throat before Teddy’s horrified eyes. In an attempt to escape, Teddy suffers a stab wound from Rebecca but locks her out before fleeing into the forest. During his desperate escape, he stumbles upon Lou’s corpse and collapses by his car, where Rebecca cheerfully films herself as she brutally finishes him off too.
Now donning the engagement ring that Claire had once declined, Rebecca returns to the house with Teddy’s body, cleaning up the crime scene. She notices that Claire’s desperate video has uploaded, but instead of garnering concern, viewers dismiss it as absurdity, resulting in a mass unsubscribe from their channel. In spite of the chaos, Rebecca can’t help but smile, relishing in her grim, twisted victory.

Still wondering what the ending of Superhost (2021) really means? Here’s a spoiler-heavy breakdown of the final scene, major twists, and the deeper themes that shape the film’s conclusion.
The ending of “Superhost” reveals the horrifying extent of Rebecca’s twisted personality. Throughout the film, Rebecca has been manipulating Teddy and Claire, pretending she lives in a small storeroom while secretly controlling the entire house with a network of CCTV cameras and a master control system. This setup allowed her to spy on the couple and ultimately commit her gruesome crimes undetected. When Claire discovers Rebecca’s true hideout, she films an SOS message to seek help, but Rebecca interrupts her and viciously slits her throat before she can alert anyone. Teddy rushes to save Claire but is overpowered and stabbed by Rebecca, who then attempts to cover her tracks by cleaning the scene of her murders and placing Teddy’s proposal ring around her neck as a trophy of her dominance.
In the final moments, Rebecca returns to her control room, where she watches Claire’s last video, only to realize that most viewers dismiss it as just another clickbait scam, rendering her victory hollow. The ending subtly echoes the story of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” warning that continuous dishonesty and deception—like Teddy and Claire’s fake horror video—can lead to a loss of trust, and possibly, devastating consequences. Rebecca’s chilling victory is undercut by this irony, emphasizing that her psychopathic deeds are ultimately futile when her manipulations are exposed. The film closes with her triumphant but empty smile, leaving viewers pondering the costs of lies and the silence that comes with unchecked cruelty.
