Stolen Holiday

In 1931 Paris, Nicole Picot, a fashion model for a boutique, is hired by Stefan Orloff who is nearly penniless. He wants her help to persuade a financier to back his ambitious plans. Nicole sees this as a chance to pursue her dream of becoming a modiste.

By 1934 Stefan has established an investment bank and provides the capital Nicole needs to set up her own dress design business. She is grateful, but she insists on paying him back.

With Stefan's backing, she launches her own fashion house and begins to find success. Nicole becomes a rising designer while Stefan's criminal dealings remain hidden behind the glamour. She remains optimistic about her dream.

Nicole's friend and assistant Suzanne warns that Stefan's schemes will end badly. She urges Nicole to be wary of the man behind the money. Nicole remains hopeful despite the warnings.

British diplomat Anthony Wayne romances Nicole and wins her heart as she climbs in fashion. Their relationship provides a contrast to Stefan's world. Nicole feels personally fulfilled, even as tensions simmer.

In 1936, with his schemes unraveling, Stefan asks Nicole to marry him to bolster his public image and buy time. He hides his real motive, counting on her influence to help.

Nicole agrees to marry Stefan out of friendship, not love. The wedding is used to reassure investors and the public; during the ceremony, Stefan's associate Francis Chalon is taken away by the police for questioning as guests flee.

After the wedding, Stefan retreats to a remote chateau, fearing arrest. He continues to manipulate events from hiding while Nicole remains drawn in by his entreaties.

Stefan sends a letter inviting Nicole to join him at the chateau. Despite Anthony's protests, she travels to meet him, hoping to get answers.

At the chateau, Nicole compels Stefan to admit the truth of his frauds. He continues to insist he loves her, trying to win her over.

When the police close in on the chateau, Stefan steps outside to spare Nicole. He is shot, and the authorities stage it as a suicide to avoid further embarrassment to the government.

Nicole feels compelled to repay Stefan's defrauded creditors, even though French law does not require it. Her actions bankrupt her fashion house and leaves her and Suzanne starting over.

With the business gone, Suzanne and Nicole are back to where they started. They remain determined and support each other through the setback.

Anthony arrives while the women are packing their office and persuades Nicole to marry him, notwithstanding concerns about how it might affect his career.

The film closes with Nicole facing a new future alongside Anthony, choosing love and partnership over the perilous schemes of the past.
