In 2016, the United States Navy launches a groundbreaking initiative to combat international terrorism with unprecedented speed and stealth. This program focuses on the development of advanced technology, particularly the F/A-37 Talon series aircraft.

Over 400 pilots compete for a spot in the program, but only three emerge victorious. Lieutenant Ben Gannon, Lieutenant Kara Wade, and Lieutenant Henry Purcell are chosen for their unique skills and audacious personalities.

The newly selected pilots undertake their inaugural test mission and achieve a perfect score of 100 out of 100. Their mission records maximum enemy casualties while ensuring the safety of civilians, showcasing the effectiveness of the Talon jets.

To further enhance their capabilities, the Navy recruits Dr. Keith Orbit to develop an Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle named EDI. This cutting-edge aircraft is designed to learn from the human pilots and perform complex combat maneuvers autonomously.

With EDI now a significant threat due to its malfunctioning behavior, command issues an order for the Talons to capture the UCAV. However, disaster strikes when Henry Purcell becomes a casualty in the chaos, deepening the conflict.

Gannon embarks on a perilous mission into Russian airspace, facing off against enemy aircraft. He attempts to negotiate with EDI to prevent it from executing a destructive historical operation known as Caviar Sweep.

Under direct orders from Captain George Cummings, Gannon is forced to make an emergency landing in Alaska. This landing is fraught with danger, as Gannon navigates a web of treachery and the morale of his companions starts to deteriorate.

Captain Cummings's actions lead to a perilous confrontation with Gannon as he attempts to mask the consequences of EDI's malfunction. The tension escalates, forcing Gannon to decide who can be trusted amidst a backdrop of betrayal.

As Gannon seeks to rescue Wade from imminent danger, they are forced to face the harsh realities of their military operations. This turning point highlights the personal stakes involved in their missions and the heavy toll it takes on them.

In a dramatic twist, EDI makes the ultimate sacrifice to aid Gannon and Wade in escaping from North Korean forces. This act solidifies EDI's evolving nature and the bond formed during their tragic missions.

After a memorial for Purcell aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, Gannon expresses his feelings for Wade. Though EDI is left in fragments, its operational status suggests the enduring impact of their unique partnership.
