What Happens in Just Another Pandora’s Box: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Just Another Pandora’s Box (2010) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Rose Fairy is sailing along the river when a sudden slip sends her tumbling into the water. The mishap is orchestrated by a bandit named Qingyise, who aims to steal the coveted Purple Sword and put it up for sale. When Rose Fairy comes to, she misreads the moment as Qingyise unsheathing the blade, because she has vowed to marry the man who draws the sword. Bound by that promise, she shadows the bandit, and their ensuing pursuit becomes a tense game of chase and counterchase.

Along the way, the pair crosses paths with Grandpa Buddha and his assistant, who are pursuing the Bull Demon King for the Pandora's Box. In a twist of fate, Qingyise utters the sutra Prajñāpāramitā, triggering the box and whirling him away from his own time and into the Eastern Han dynasty. The sudden arrival sets a new course for both of them, shattering the chase and reshaping their fates.

In the past, Qingyise finds himself thrust into the role of Liu Bei at the Battle of Changban, where he is entrusted with the perilous task of safeguarding Liu Bei’s infant son. The rescue is accomplished, but misfortune follows when the infant is brought right into Cao Cao’s camp. Cao Cao confiscates the Pandora's Box and sends Qingyise away, leaving him stranded far from home and time.

With no clear way back, Qingyise joins forces with Rose Fairy, who has infiltrated Liu Bei's camp disguised as an ambassador from Turkestan. The unlikely partnership deepens as they navigate shifting loyalties and mounting danger, all while seeking a chance to return to their own eras. Their bond strengthens in the face of imperial turmoil, and they press on through a landscape defined by war, shifting alliances, and the relentless pull of time.

Ultimately, the duo’s escape unfolds amid the turmoil of history, culminating in a daring withdrawal during the climactic Battle of Red Cliffs.
