In 2305, a mysterious man arrives at a dilapidated outpost, demanding the location of Captain James T. Kirk, only to reveal that Kirk was presumed dead after saving the USS Enterprise-B twelve years earlier. Angrily declaring he Nichelle Nichols “didn’t wait 40 years to be cheated,” he overloads the outpost’s systems, destroying it.

Captain Nyota Uhura Nichelle Nichols attends the dedication of a new U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-M), a replica of the original commanded by Peter James Cawley. There she meets Captain Pavel Chekov Walter Koenig, head of Starfleet Security, and Captain John Harriman Alan Ruck, captain of the USS Enterprise-B. After receiving a distress call, the trio beams down to the planet M-622, home to the Guardian of Forever, where they encounter the enigmatic Charlie Evans William Wellman Jr.. Imprisoned for four decades and embittered by Kirk’s decision to turn him over to the Thasians, Evans plans to use the Guardian to erase Kirk from history by killing his mother before he was born.

That act shifts the timeline into a harsh new order—the Galactic Order. A mysterious sovereign, Curate Prime, rules this militarized galaxy, where Klingons, Romulans, and Orions fill the ranks. Harriman commands the Conqueror, a brutal analogue of the Enterprise, and captures Chekov (under the alias “Kittrick”) and his shape‑shifting ally Ragnar Gary Graham, who lead a freedom‑fighting resistance. Harriman travels toward Vulcan, which has declared neutrality, and the stage is set for a devastating confrontation.

On Vulcan, Uhura discovers that she is married to Stonn Lawrence Montaigne and has several children. As the Conqueror arrives, the Vulcans begin evacuations. Harriman unleashes an Omega device that annihilates the planet. Uhura and her ally Tuvok Tim Russ are taken to the Conqueror’s brig alongside Kittrick and Ragnar, while Tuvok helps Uhura unlock memories of the old timeline and persuade their allies to reclaim the ship and restore the timeline.

In a desperate move, Harriman corners them, and the group is transported to Curate Prime—revealed to be Gary Mitchell Daamen J. Krall. Mitchell, believing himself a living god, has used Kirk’s absence to seize control of the Federation and reshape it as the Galactic Order. With the Conqueror still under Kittrick’s faction, a battle erupts. A fleet of Kittrick’s allies, led by Captain Galt Herbert Jefferson Jr. of the free ship Liberty, clashes with Mitchell’s forces as the two powers collide in a bid for supremacy.

With Chekov and Harriman directing the Conqueror, Uhura attempts a risky strike from within, while Janice Rand Grace Lee Whitney is used as a weapon by Mitchell to locate her. Charlie Evans, tapping into his Thasian‑granted abilities, interrupts the godlike tyrant and, in a dramatic turn, uses the Guardian one last time to restore the disrupted memories and return the timeline to its original course. Evans ultimately defeats Mitchell by forcing him to confront the limits of his power, and the Omega‑driven catastrophe is averted as the saucer is maneuvered into a collision that neutralizes the threat.

Back on the surface, Evans steps through the Guardian and returns to the moment he first visited the outpost, but this time his future self appears, shoots him with a phaser, and ensures that the timeline reverts to normal. The landing party is restored to their museum‑ship reality.

A year later, Uhura, driven by her memories of the alternate timeline, marries Stonn on Vulcan. Chekov is finally promoted to admiral, while Harriman announces a run for the Federation Council. Among the guests is Rand, who presents Chekov with a neutered tribble as a lighthearted gesture for his promotion. Uhura raises a toast to forty years of adventures, while Chekov toasts to the next forty, recalling that Spock always spoke of endless possibilities.
