In this poignant drama, we follow the journey of Maya, a mysterious East Asian woman portrayed by Kerry Liu, who emerges from the shadows of Los Angeles’ underbelly. Seeking both refuge and a sense of purpose, she finds herself at a seedy massage parlor located in a run-down neighborhood. Initially presenting herself in tattered clothing and struggling with her thoughts in broken English, Maya captures the attention of the enigmatic Mamasan (played by Tomiko Lee), who sees potential in this fresh-faced newcomer.

As Maya begins to navigate the complex and often dark reality of the parlor’s “shower and massage” services—a euphemism for something far more sinister—she quickly rises in popularity among clients. Her unique presence earns her the respect and admiration of her coworkers, including the stoic Asia (Gina Hiraizumi), the emotionally vulnerable Yuko (Mari Tanaka), the no-nonsense Jenna (Hiromi Nishiyama), and the self-absorbed Sammy (Kate Holliday).

Amidst the hustle and chaos of her new environment, Maya forms a unique bond with Harry, portrayed by Luciano Saber, an introverted freelance writer and aspiring poet in his thirties who has yet to experience the thrill of intimacy. As their unconventional infatuation develops during Harry’s regular visits to the parlor, Maya is compelled to confront her own secrets—the very ones that led her to abandon her past—and to reflect on the mysterious motivations driving her decisions. The struggle between her newfound identity and the haunting shadows of her previous life creates a compelling narrative that unfolds in unexpected ways.
