In January 1980, ACP Afaaque Baaghran listens to the wounded gangster Manya Surve recount his harrowing tale inside a police van. Manya, gashed by bullets, is determined to share his story about his tumultuous life in the criminal underworld.

Back in 1970, Manya Surve is a dedicated student at Kirti College, balancing his studies with embracing charming moments with his girlfriend, Vidya Joshi. Despite her attempts to influence him, Manya remains focused on his academic goals, indicating his strong character.

During a critical meeting with his family, the atmosphere shifts dramatically when Manya's gangster brother, Bhargav Surve, expresses his ambition to challenge the underworld kingpin, Nitesh Dhamne. This confrontation highlights the tension between Manya's aspirations and his family's involvement in crime.

Bhargav Surve is ambushed by rival gang members, kicking off a chain of violent events. Manya intervenes to protect his brother but tragically ends up causing Bhargav's fatal stabbing, marking a critical turning point in his life.

After the violent incident, both brothers find themselves arrested by Inspector Ambolkar and are sent to Yerawada Prison. This marks the beginning of Manya's transformation as he enters a grim environment that shapes his future.

In a strategic maneuver, local editor Siddique suggests teaming up with petty crooks Zubair and Dilawar to dismantle the Mastan gang. This dangerous alliance yields early successes, leading to the capture of a few critical gang members.

Manya and Munir escape from prison during a labor assignment, seeking to align with the Haksar brothers. While Zubair is welcoming, Dilawar is antagonistic, prompting Manya to assert his independence by forming his own gang, which ushers in a spate of robberies.
