Shoot-Out At Medicine Bend

Captain Buck Devlin, Sergeant John Maitland, and Private Wilbur Clegg arrive at Devlin's brother's homestead, only to find it under Indian attack. They manage to drive off the attackers but arrive too late to save Devlin's brother, who dies due to faulty ammunition. The men decide to investigate the source of the defective supplies.

The three men head for Medicine Bend to uncover who supplied the faulty ammunition that caused the death of Devlin's brother. Along the way, they are robbed of all their possessions, including money, horses, and uniforms. They are then helped by a Rebthren congregation who provide them with spare clothing.

Devlin, Maitland, and Clegg disguise themselves as Brethren to gather intelligence. Simultaneously, Devlin works for merchant Elam King, who is secretly transporting weapons from St. Louis. This dual infiltration helps them gather crucial information about Ep Clark's illegal activities.

Devlin uncovers Clark's connection to the defective ammunition and learns about a secret wagon train of weapons arriving from St. Louis. Devlin begins stealing back Clark's stolen goods, including his mother's brooch from saloon girl Nell Garrison, to weaken Clark's operation.

Clark becomes suspicious of Devlin and the others after their secret activities. He attempts to trap Devlin, but the plan fails, resulting in the death of one of Clark's gang members. Clark then arranges the arrest of Maitland and Clegg for murder, leading to their swift sentencing to hang.

Nell Garrison, who has developed feelings for Maitland, persuades Sheriff Massey to release the imprisoned men. However, the sheriff is shot in the back by Clark's men. Nell then seeks help from Brother Abraham to prevent the hanging and rescue the prisoners.

Devlin confronts Clark in a brutal fight. During the fight, Clark attempts to shoot Devlin with the defective ammunition, but Devlin's quick action saves his life. Clark then grabs a scythe, only to be fatally impaled when Devlin knocks him down, ending Clark's tyranny.

With Clark defeated, Devlin and Maitland prepare to ride into the sunset, accompanied by Priscilla and Nell respectively. Their journeys symbolize new starts; Clegg, however, chooses to stay with the Brethren and serve a 'hitch' among them, finding a new purpose.
