What Happens in Final Justice: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Final Justice (1984) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Mafioso Joseph Palermo, Venantino Venantini, and his brother Tony flee across the border after assassinating a building contractor. Their escape ends in a deadly car crash, and after killing the other driver, they hijack a car from a local police station. In the ensuing firefight, Palermo shoots and kills the sheriff, Greydon Clark, turning the pursuit into a tense, cross‑border manhunt. The gangsters are chased by the sheriff’s deputy, a hard-edged Apache-descendant named Thomas Jefferson Geronimo III, Joe Don Baker. He shoots Tony dead and captures Joseph, who swears he will seek revenge for his brother’s death.

As a publicity stunt, Wilson, a US State Department official, Bill McKinney orders Geronimo to escort Palermo to Italy. But the plan derails when the plane is sabotaged and forced to land in Malta, plunging the chase into a new arena. In Valletta, Geronimo is ambushed while Palermo slips away, and the Maltese police—led by Superintendent Mifsud, Lino Grech—assure him that they’ll recapture Palermo themselves. A phone call from Chief Wilson orders Geronimo to return to Texas, yet the deputy remains undeterred and presses on with grim resolve.

With the aid of a local policewoman, Maria Cassar, Helena Dalli, Geronimo closes in on Palermo, tracking him to the estate of Don Lamanna, a powerful local figure. Throughout his pursuit, Geronimo finds himself repeatedly arrested by Maltese authorities, only to slip away again and keep chasing the elusive target. The plot reveals a shattering twist: Palermo was never intended to be delivered to Italy, and Wilson’s schemes were more about control than cooperation.

In a climactic turn, Maria Cassar turns the tables on Wilson, ending his influence, and Geronimo finally brings Palermo to justice. The film winds to a close with a hard-won confrontation, leaving Geronimo to reckon with the cost of chasing a fugitive across borders, and with Palermo’s fate sealed by the relentless mix of ambition, deceit, and pursuit.
