Sharknado 5: Global Swarming (2017) Timeline Explained – Every Event in Order

Gil was dragged into the dimensional sharknado because the storm's vortex pulled him in while he was outside during the attack on London. The Buckingham Palace guards fought to protect the city, but the vortex's powerful suction was too strong for the young boy to resist, causing him to vanish from sight.

The dimensional sharknado was created when Nova activated an artifact beneath Stonehenge, unleashing a storm with a vortex inside it. This vortex can transport people and objects across space and time, pulling Gil into its center and later swallowing Fin, April, and Gil during their rescue attempt at the Vatican.

Foreshadowing: The artifact Nova recovered from the Stonehenge temple was explicitly tied to an ancient shark god.

Nova kept Gemini's role in the Sisterhood hidden likely to protect her cousin from the danger and to prevent Fin from having conflicting loyalties during the mission. Fin reacts with anger when he discovers Gemini has been secretly overseeing a ship carrying nuclear waste as part of the global coalition.

A sharknado struck Gemini's ship, which was carrying nuclear waste from Niagara Falls. The storm absorbed the radioactive material and mutated the sharks inside into a massive, combined entity dubbed Sharkzilla, a giant shark-filled mass that headed toward Japan and devastated Tokyo.

Nova skydived into Sharkzilla to reach Gil trapped inside the creature. After clawing her way toward him, military jets bombarded the mass, triggering a cataclysmic explosion. Nova was mortally wounded during the blast and died after Fin forgave her and accepted her as family.

April's body was badly damaged during a shark attack in Sydney. The Sharknado Sisterhood upgraded her with cybernetic enhancements, giving her increased strength and durability. This upgraded April accompanied Fin in pursuit of Gil and later gained energy-absorbing abilities.

When the ancient mechanism reversed and vortex energy erupted from Earth's core, creating a planetary sharknado, Fin and April couldn't stop the device. April used her energy-absorbing abilities to absorb the entire planetary vortex, sacrificing herself in an explosion to end the catastrophe and save the world.

After Sharkzilla exploded in Tokyo, Gil vanished from sight. He later reappeared as an aged version played by Dolph Lundgren, having spent years developing a method to use sharknadoes as time machines. He traveled back to the post-apocalyptic present to find his father Fin.

The ancient mechanism at the Pyramids of Giza was designed to absorb vortex energy from the sharknadoes. However, when activated, it reversed and released the stored energy back into Earth's core, triggering a massive eruption that created a planetary sharknado consuming the entire planet.

The Sharknado Sisterhood is a global alliance dedicated to destroying sharknadoes. Members include Nova, Orion (Olivia Newton-John), Electra (Chloe Lattanzi), and Fin's cousin Gemini. They possess advanced technology, coordinate global responses to storms, and operate ships carrying nuclear waste intended as a weapon against the storms.

After Nova's death in Tokyo, Fin called his son Matt, who tearfully informed him that all their family members were dead. During the call, Matt was killed by a sharknado striking the family farm in Kansas, confirming the devastating loss of Fin's entire extended family.

The Pope summoned Fin and April to the Vatican and gifted them a mystical chainsaw to aid in their mission to battle sharknadoes. This was meant to help Fin fight through the sharks and storms they would encounter, fitting the film's camp tone of arming the hero with absurd weapons against the sharknado threat.

Fin and April attempted to return the artifact to Stonehenge to halt the global outbreak, but their plan backfired. The sharknado they summoned transported them to Egypt instead, where the pyramid mechanism's failure caused the catastrophic planetary sharknado rather than stopping the disasters.

Gemini was overseeing operations in Tokyo when the global sharknado erupted following the pyramid mechanism's reversal. She was killed in the massive storm that consumed the city, one of the many casualties as the planetary sharknadodevastated Earth.
