Salaam Bombay!

In a cramped neighbourhood of Bombay, an 11‑year‑old boy named Krishna reacts to relentless bullying by setting his elder brother’s motorbike ablaze. His worried mother, hoping to teach responsibility, sends him to the wandering Apollo Circus with the simple charge of earning enough money to make amends. The circus, with its kaleidoscope of colours and nightly performances, offers a fleeting sense of wonder, but it is also a place of hard work and fleeting promises, setting the stage for Krishna’s first taste of independence.

When the troupe packs up and moves on, Krishna finds himself alone in the teeming streets of Mumbai, far from the safety of the travelling tents. The city unfolds as a living maze of bustling markets, narrow alleys, and crowded tea stalls where the scent of spices mixes with the constant hum of traffic. It is a world where survival is measured in small, daily victories, and the line between hope and desperation is razor‑thin. Here, Krishna takes up a modest job at a tea stall, learning the rhythm of the city while the surrounding slums pulse with both vitality and hardship.

Among the maze of faces, he encounters Chillum, a streetwise figure who introduces him to a hidden network of commerce that operates just beyond the surface. He also meets Sola Saal, a teenage girl whose presence adds a fragile tenderness to his rough surroundings.
