Ralph Lavie is a 400-year-old vampire living with his mother Phoebe, and he bears a curse that causes Mona to reincarnate every 22 years. Mona's first appearance in 1682 ends with her murder by a jealous pirate, starting the cycle anew. Since then, Mona returns each Halloween only to die under the same odd circumstances.

In 1990 Ralph resolves to stay locked in his room and avoid Mona until after Halloween, hoping to escape the curse. He complains about the burden of immortality and the meddling, libidinous nature of his own reflection. His vow sets the stage for the year’s unfolding events.

Ralph gathers with friends at a local bar and recounts the long, repetitive curse that haunts him. The story frames the legend for the audience and establishes the stakes of Mona’s recurring deaths. The bar setting gives a casual backdrop to this mythic history.

As he wanders the streets, Ralph is hit by a car driven by Mona’s current incarnation, a local singer. He warns her off, but the collision rekindles his determination to save her life this time. The encounter marks the realignment of their fates.

A portentous dream rekindles Ralph’s resolve to break the cycle and protect Mona. Spurred by the vision, he resolves to seek Mona out and intervene in the cycle once more. The dream acts as a catalyst for the film’s central romance-fantasy arc.

Ralph reveals he’s been musically trained for centuries and forms the band Rockula with his friends. Their first gig becomes a hit, boosting their popularity and cementing Ralph’s double life as vampire and frontman. The act leverages his vampiric persona for a gimmick that clicks with audiences.

Ralph and Mona begin dating and collaborate musically, writing songs and filming a video together. Their romance grows alongside the band’s rising profile, tying love to the music and the curse’s resolution. The dynamic deepens the emotional stakes of the story.

Stanley seeks the aid of a psychic, Madame Ben-Wa, who reveals Ralph is a vampire. He hatches a plan to kill Ralph and cryogenically freeze Mona to keep her forever. The plot introduces a dangerous human antagonist using occult and scientific means.

Ralph and Mona join Phoebe for dinner alongside Phoebe’s current beau. Phoebe discusses her long, extended life and even mentions historic figures, hinting at the family’s unusual longevity. The dinner exposes family dynamics behind the curse.

On the way home, Ralph confesses his vampiric nature to Mona. She remains skeptical until he half-transforms into a bat, delivering a tangible reveal. The moment tests their relationship and commitment.

During Rockula’s Halloween show, Mona returns and confesses love, but Stanley kidnaps her for his freezing plan. He marches her toward a cryogenic chamber as the audience watches. The stage becomes a battleground for life and curse-bound fate.

Ralph’s guidance from his reflection leads him to Mona’s location as he confronts Stanley. A duel ensues with Ralph wielding a rhinestone peg-leg and Stanley wielding a hambone. Madame Ben-Wa is revealed to be Phoebe; she is knocked out, and the curse is broken as Ralph saves Mona.

After the victory, Ralph’s reflection breaks free from the mirror and steps into the world dressed as Elvis. He performs a final number with Rockula, providing a flamboyant post-credits capstone to the tale. Ralph and Mona head out together into a new, curse-free future.
